Judge Greg Mathis has never shied away from telling television viewers of his 'Judge Mathis' court television series how far he's truly come.
Earlier this month, the Motor City showed their appreciation for what Mathis has accomplished by honoring the hometown hero with his very-own street. The Detroit Housing Commission named 'Mathis Avenue' at the Gardenview Estates Housing Development, a piece of land that has stood vacant, neglected and lifeless for more than a decade.
Mathis, who is in the eleventh season of his show, is currently sponsoring a 12-week program called the Mathis Mobile Services Project to provide Detroit residents with food, resources and information needed to help them get back on their feet. The mobile unit will continue traveling to various locations throughout the city through Sept. 27.
The NAACP Image Award Winner writes his own bi-weekly column for Black America Web and frequently appears on The Tom Joyner Morning Show. To date, the 49 year-old, who was the youngest person appointed to Michigan's 36th District Supreme Court, has also raised $5 million for various equal justice political and youth causes.
