'Real Housewives of Atlanta' star Kandi Burruss' ex-fiance Ashley 'A.J.' Jewell was killed after a fight outside popular Atlanta strip club, The Body Tap, late Friday night.
He was rushed to Piedmont Hospital, where he later died.
Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows confirmed, "It appears he was involved in an altercation in the parking lot and received a severe blow to the head."
Meadows said that the police have developed a person of interest in the case, adding, "we've made contact with him to question him about the incident."
(SEE ARREST UPDATE BELOW.)
The Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter's publicist, Lisa Nelson, confirmed to WSBTV.com that Burruss was "stunned and speechless" and that "the family is asking for privacy during this very difficult time."
Burruss, a former member of the platinum '90s R&B group Xscape, recently revealed that she and Jewell split.
The couple, who were engaged earlier this year, have chronicled their relationship on the Bravo reality show 'The Real Housewives of Atlanta.'
Burruss is also currently raising Jewell's twin daughters.
"AJ's murder is horrific, not only for his family, including the six beautiful children he is leaving behind, but also for Kandi, who obviously still loves him despite their broken engagement," Atlanta-area entertainment journalist Isoul Harris, who has a professional friendship with Burrus told BV Newswire today. "Also, this is another case of senseless violence that's not only rampant in Atlanta, but all over the country."
UPDATED, 11:33 a.m.: Police told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution newspaper that they have charged Frederick Richardson with voluntary manslaughter in the beating death of Jewell. Richardson is currently hospitalized at Grady Memorial Hospital for injuries sustained in the fight. He will be jailed once released by medical staff. Though the cause of the fight is still unknown, police confirmed that witnesses were cooperating.
'It's a great thing that a suspect has been arrested in this case," Harris added. "It surely brings a little comfort to his friends and family."
The Atlanta native, who also changed her Twitter profile picture to a flick of her and Jewell, ask fans to remember Jewell leaves behind six children. "Please pray for AJ's children, that's who im the most concerned 4. Im just in one of those moods where I dont wanna talk, I dont wanna b held & told its gonna b ok. I just wanna cry myself 2 sleep, alone."
"Right now, she is just trying to wrap her head around the fact that he is gone," Harris concluded.

I pray for Aj's family and yourself that God heals your heart. I also give condolence to your family about the loss of your uncle. Let me tell you to cry and wipe your eyes and mourn all you need. God sees your tears and your pain. I am saddened by your losses and really see that most young men have no respect for life. Take it one day at a time. Only God does the healing and I will put you and AJ's family on the prayer list with my church. Remember God is with you every step of the way. Love you Kandi
Minister Deborah

I want to send my prayers out to Aj kids, family,Kadi and to who ever is going threw a tragic loss. The times we are living in is crazy and all we can do is pray, because we can be here one minute and gone the next. So many people are dying over pride, money, and things that they are not even taking with them when they leave this earth. To all the people that like doing senseless crime it is sad that you do not have nothing better going on but trying to find a way to hurt people, cause when you kill one person you are killing a whole family. The people that are still living is the people that will feel this hurt for the rest of there lives. Not the people that are dead.

Prayers and condolences to the family and hopes of peace in heaven to AJ's soul. Let's all remember he was these children's father. And his memory should be lifted and kept in a good, clean light. Now is not the time to go there to judge why he has so many kids, or anything else like that. I wonder why people seriously waste time posting such an evil comment. Really? What if that were your family or friend? Anyone can unfortunately get in a fight. No one deserves to die from one. And certainly no one who isnt't alive to defend themselves should be subject to people downgrading his character and reputation.
GOD does work in mysterious ways, it's so amazing how Kandi got custody of his twin girls, long before anyone could've predicted this. Since they weren't married, if he had passed first, she would've never been awarded custody. And now she is the strength and blessing in their lives. Honor and praise to the classiest Atlanta Housewife.
Now we try to make sense of a horrific, stupid tragedy. And we mourn, move on, but always remember. RIP AJ.

What an unexpected piece of news I learned on the show tonight. Kandi, what a special Christian lady you are and have brought the spirit with you onto the Atl Housewives set. These times we live in bring such a disjointedness among the good people of these United States. I pray tonight for you and your family. Heavenly Father promises that as one door closes in our life, we are to be ever so deligent in waiting for the other doors he plans to open for you Kandi. AJ must have accomplished what God had prepared him for. Share your hopes, dreams and memories of his love for you, your daughter and his other children. I'm confident you will find the meaning for your liason in the little, heartfelt quips whispered often during those special 30 to 60 second captured momentrs!!!!
I know you in my spirit even though I'm out here in Washington State. My name is Donna and I'm in entertainment marketing, so I feel quite sure we will someday have business together. Read your Bible every night and pray for survival! Need a quick pick-me-up email me at; donna2294@comcast.net
GOD BLESS!!!!!!

Everyone is gonna have an opinion about everything, including your mother!!!! I say you answer for your actions. You have a right to love who you want. Now with all the nonsense of what you should and should not do, you've lost a love!Life is short and in God's control. I'm really sorry for your pain. But if God brings you to it, He will also bring you through it!!Prayers for you and his children from me. Love Carol
