With eight consistent films under his belt, Tyler Perry has overcome the odds of his upbringing and earned a reputation as one of Hollywood's most relentless and profitable directors. As his dear friend and mentor, Oprah Winfrey recently stated, "Do not play him small because he is not just some lucky rich Negro-turned-black man." This and much more was all discussed on tonight's episode of the long-running newsmagazine show '60 Minutes,' where the critically acclaimed director-actor discussed an array of topics including being abused by his father, Emmitt, as a child to firing back at Spike Lee's controversial comments comparing Perry's body of work to "coonery and buffoonery."

it's funny how poeple attack Tyler with such hate. it goes to show he is making an impact (whatever kind). let us stop this 'over-philosophical' view of issues. there are tons of outrageous and utter goofy 'white' comedies that have been hailed by all as masterpieces. what can be more outrageous as shows like JACKASS and PUNKED and yet they are loved. spike should let him be. you can do tons of movies to 'correct' the impression of others to blacks but that may do little or no good. just like yourself and what is yours. that is all that matters, that is all that is important.
yes there may be some excesses, however be cautious with your critisism.
if not for anything, tyler is an employer of labour. he has brought happiness through laughter to millions(there is so much anger and hate in the air) and also put food on various tables.
tyler will get better.
i know that.

I AM SO TIRED OF BLACK PEOPLE PUTTING OTHER BLACK PEOPLE DOWN. SPIKE LEE IS ONE TO TALK, I DON'T EVEN LIKE HIS MOVIES BECAUSE THEY ARE SO EMBARRASSING TO WATCH, ESPECIALLY THE EARLIER ONES, TYLER'S WORK IS WORK WE CAN RELATE TO AND PUT US IN A POSSITIVE LIGHT. WE WILL NEVER GET ANYWHERE IF WE DON'T DEVELOPE UNITY AND LOVE FOR EACH OTHER. SUPPORT EACH OTHER. YES, WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT, BUT HOW MANY BLACK PEOPLE IS SO JEALOUS OR STUPID ENOUGH TO BE USED AGAINST HIM TO MAKE HIS JOB HARDER THAN IT HAS TO BE. I AM TIRED OF IT. IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING NEGATIVE ABOUT SOMEONE YOU NEED TO KEEP IT TO YOURSELF. INSTEAD YOU THINK YOU ARE SO SMART AND EXCEPTED TO VOICE IT NATIONALLY AND YOU ARE DOING JUST WHAT IS EXPECTED OF YOU.

People both Tyler and Spike are great...Being a Black male I have notice Tyler has portrayed black males in 80 percent of his movies as butt end of the jokes and yes it was funny and I do have a sense of humor but as I have evolved over the years and learned about life - His movies are not really helping the image of the black males, Honestly it hurts because I have witness the truth. Quoting MLK “No man is an island we are all interconnected” There is no doubt about whom star is shining the most and to me it is not all about money. What type of message are these films sent young boys and girls; ask them you might not like the answers. I am not calling Tyler out but I know he is capable of shown us in a positive environments under extreme circumstances where we facing issues untied as one and divided only because one falls.
