Does Oprah Winfrey has a double standard when it comes to domestic violence?
For the past few months, the talk show queen has been very vocal about her stance on domestic violence. But one reported domestic violence victim is speaking out against the media mogul.
After a highly publicized altercation that left 'Umbrella' singer Rihanna battered and bruised at the hands of then-boyfriend Chris Brown, Winfrey took to her talk show in March to discuss their situation.
"Love doesn't hurt. If a man hits you once, he will hit you again," Winfrey said.
Brown was offended by Winfrey's comments, mostly because he had a rapport with the billionaire–even performing at her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy in South Africa.
The 'Run It' singer fired back on 'Larry King Live' and in People magazine: "'I commend Oprah on being like, 'This is a problem,' but it was a slap in my face. She could have been more helpful, like, 'Okay, I'm going to help both of these people out.'"
Winfrey later told 'Access Hollywood' that she stood by her comments. "Domestic violence is something that I wouldn't tolerate. Period," she declared.
During an interview with hip hop radio personality Angie Martinez, last week, Brown still stressed his displeasure with the talk show queen.
Last week, ironically, Winfrey invited gospel singer BeBe Winans on her show to promote his new reunion project with sister CeCe Winans. The 47-year-old Grammy Award winner also appeared on Winfrey's show Oct. 30 as a judge for her new 'American Idol'-styled karaoke challenge.
Maybe she forgot he's facing domestic violence charges for a February incident in which he allegedly shoved his ex-wife, Debra Winans, to the ground in front of their kids. Winfrey is a close friend of Winans and has supported his music endeavors for years. His 1997 song 'Thank You' even became an anthem on the widely watched talk show.
Mrs. Winans told TMZ that she's "hurt by Oprah's decision to have Bebe on the show," in light of her refusal to have Brown on after the incident with Rihanna.
Winans' domestic violence charge is pending until a 2010 court hearing.

The situation with Be Be is evidence in his case. Rihanna's abuse was confirmed by her scars. With the Winans, unfortunately, there is no physical proof of the shove and thus can be disputed as a false allegation by Be Be's wife.
A man shoved me one time, and I was so outraged. However, I had to admit that was not in his character and I had done some things that were kind of mean to him. He was very trusting towards me but my character was jacked up at that time and I was jealous of his success. At the end of the day, I don't justify what he did but black women, you know we can be a trip sometime and when get in a brother's face and can abuse their kindness towards us. It's never right to hit a woman, never.
But in my case, I know he did it out of frustration. I was outraged but that man loved me and I didn't know how to give him what he needed. He wanted to marry me, I'd break up with him for random reasons. 10 years later, I can look back and compare and see that He truly loved me and I didn't always treat him right.
Sisters who are not secure with themselves can be a trip. Us black women want black men to take our crap sometimes and not respond.

OPRAH MAY BE THE GOLDEN "RULER" TO HER MOST LOYAL AND GULLIBLE FANS - WHITE PPL. BUT AS USUAL WE CAN SEE THRU HER FAT AGENDAS.
ABUSE IS ABUSE, WHETHER IT IS VERBAL, EMOTIONAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL, OR PHYSICAL. I DO THINK OPRAH WAS TOO QUICK TO JUMP ON THE CHRIS BROWN BEAT-DOWN CREW. AND HERE'S THE THING...OPRAH DON'T RUN THIS SHOW, ONLY HARPO!!!
OPRAH IS HYPOCRITICAL BUT SHE HAS PERSONAL REASONS. SHE AND BEBE (NOT GAYLE) HAVE BEEN IN 'TOUCH' WITH EACH OTHER FOR YEARS. I BELIEVE THAT SHE HAD FLASHBACKS OF WHEN SHE WAS RIHANNA'S AGE AND HOW (WITHOUT ALL THAT HIGH PRICE, CELEBRITY MAKE-UP ARTISTRY, STYLIST, AND LIGHTING DIRECTORS) SHE WAS EMOTIONALLY AND PHYSICALLY ABUSED AND NEGLECTED BY YOUNG MEN CHRIS BROWN'S AGE. SHE DID NOT HAVE A "VOICE" 35 YEARS AGO BUT NOW SHE DOES SO SHE USED IT UNWISELY. OPRAH REALLY NEED SOME PSYCHIATRIC HELP...I APPLAUD HER FOR ACTING AS IF HER PAST IS HER PAST, BUT I'M SURE ON A DAILY BASIS SHE IS REMINDED THAT NO MATTER HOW MANY BILLIONS $$$$ SHE IS WORTH, SHE IS STILL A 'COLORED GIRL' FROM MISSISSIPPI.
NOW MY OTHER THEORY IS THAT WE DON'T REALLY KNOW OR SEE THE REAL OPRAH WHO IS A FOUL-MOUTHED, CUSSING HOE WHO WAS HIT-AND-RUN BY A TENDERONI NAMED JAMIE FOXX AND NOW ONCE AGAIN THEM THAR YUNG THUGZ DONE HURT HER AGAIN. GET OVER IT OPRAH !!! NOW SHE HAS REGRESSED BACK INTO HER 'FAT' MODE...SHE JUST NEED TO BE HERSELF, BUT THEN ALL HER LOYAL AND GULLIBLE FANS MAY CHANGE THE CHANNEL...OOOOOOOPS !!!!
P.S. OPRAH YOU BETTA RECOGNIZE... WHITE PPL ARE THE MOST TWO-FACED PPL ON EARTH AND THEY WILL ONLY LET YOU SO FAR INTO THEIR CLUBZ, LONG AS YOU SERVE THEM A PURPOSE. REMEMBER O.J. AND HOW LOUIS VUITTON DISSED YOU. (REGARDLESS OF YOUR BILLIONS)

The only double standards out there are black men making money in rap putting down black women as ho's and bitches when they are the dl bitches. Only a black man would do such a thing. There’s an epidemic of death and destruction that got slime shady Sharpton asking for a day of outrage. It too late. And any black woman who takes part is being used and is a fool. Remember Sharpton supported black men who gang raped a black mother and forced her to have sex with her12year old son with a gun to his head. Whites are just sitting back laughing their ass off as black men self destruct and take black women down with them. Keep making your millions Oprah and F your haters.

The difference BeBe Winans "shoved" his wife, not good.....but Chris Brown beat Rhianna viciously....big difference....the beating of Rhianna was way worser than a shove to the ground...C'mon people are you all serious? Gheez

This isn't even about what is or isn't abuse. It's about whether Oprah showed favoritism to BeBe and my perception is no. Bebe has an "alleged" assault from an angry EX wife. Chris Brown was charged and convicted of beating his girlfriend. I don't even see why the two are being compared or why who Oprah invites on her show is news or blog worthy. Seems to me a bunch of folks ex wife and media are kicking up dust. What there isn't anything interesting to gossip about his week?

i don't see what is wrong w/Oprah interviewing Sarah Palin..Sarah Palin is nuts and she is a dangerous women...i consider her an enemy to people like me...frankly Palin needs to be kept close.
Oprah never said she wouldn't have her on the show, she said AFTER the election.
as for Chris Brown who knows why Oprah is down w/Be Be. I don't care..she must have her reasons. I know you don't see be be winans runnin around complaining about who isn't supporting him.
Some of you hold Oprah to higher standards than you do yourselves or politicians! pretty pathetic really.
