Although this year's annual 'Soul Train Awards' is set to air later this month, the star-studded event is already garnering lots of attention.
Academy Award nominees Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard served as hosts of the popular awards show, celebrating achievements in black music.

Beyonce -- who was a no-show to the awards -- won three awards, while Keith Sweat, Ginuwine, Raheem DeVaughn, Kandi Burruss and Brian McKnight all covered some of The Gap Band's most notable classics. (Other winners listed below.)
Chaka Khan's memorable tribute performance featured Erykah Badu, Melle Mel, Ledisi, Fantasia and Angie Stone, who all took the stage for renditions of 'Through the Fire' and 'Tell Me Something Good.'
One of the show's most talked about moments came during an intimate performance between Trey Songz and Toni Braxton. The pair, who performed Braxton's latest single, 'Yesterday,' capped off their appearance with a rather intimate French kiss, which some are speculating led to Braxton's recent split from husband Keri Lewis. The two-hour ceremony will also honor the late, great Michael Jackson -- who has won six Soul Train awards throughout his career -- with the special 2009 Entertainer of the Year Award.
Officially titled "Centric Presents: 2009 Soul Train Awards Show," the event will premiere simultaneously on the new BET spin-off channel, Centric, and BET on Nov. 29 at 9 p.m. ET. Centric went live on Sept. 28 via digital cable and satellite-cable carriers.

I must give credit where credit is due. After the disappointing BET Awards and tribute to MJ that aired earlier this year, I was a bit apprehensive about BET and the Soul Train Awards. However, I was very pleasantly surprised! It was really classy and I especially loved how the performers were dressed to the NINE! It reminded me of how performers like the Temptations would dress back in the day. What a welcome relief. Keep up the good work BET. There was so much chemistry between Tariji and Terrance, I couldn't wait to see what they would do next. Now this was the type of programing the whole family could watch and enjoy without being ashamed!
GREAT JOB!!!!!!

I watched the Soul Train Awards last night and is it just me..... or does Taraji and Terrence have chemistry? They would make an adorable couple.... and I'm happy to see the Soul Train Awards back.

I enjoyed the show as well.
I don't think Keri Hilson is a talented performing artist. She can't sing. Brian McKnight and Fantasia reminded me that they CAN sing. The two members of Boyz to Men that showed up, still sound real good. I was holding my breath when Kici and JoJo were on stage, I wish these two well. I'm wondering if Don Cornelius is ok? Tariji & Terrance did well as hosts.
It will be interesting to see the new generation of Soul Train. I'm hoping it will be more than barely dressed females dancing like strippers, and lip synching artists. If it is not going to be more than that, why bother.

The show was very entertaining and engaging. Henson and Howard are great hosts and they seem to have lots of chemistry between them. Love their antics. I was sooo glad there were no rap artists - they a just too vulgar - and if I had to eliminate an artist it would have been the song about "I invented sex" - totally out of place/girlz were slutty. And Robin Thicke was unimpressive. I'm tired of Beyonce Knowles!

I agree. Taraji and Terrence did a wonderful job. I am so glad we had two classy people hosting. They didn't curse, or do anything out of order. I really, really enjoyed it! The entire show was great!

While I enjoyed the soul train awards, I would have loved to see a "where are they now" for the soul train dancers, some of whom are just as popular as the artists themselves..Also I am glad there was no focus on hip hop artists, except for ludacris whose song Bulletproof with Raheem Devaughn reminds me of classic Marvin Gaye!!!

Great Show Period! If you have any appreciation to for the history of black music as I do, this was very entertaining. Granted, the production quality was lacking a bit, but the overall ambiance of the entire presentation was electric. this was defiantly the top 3 award shows this year and who ever coordinated and directed the event did a great job! love it!
