Thanksgiving is a time to fellowship with family and friends. Yet, every year ,millions of people go without food on this special day.
In the spirit of giving, a few big names are doing their part.
Radio and TV personality Steve Harvey and his wife, Marjorie, are handing out more than 6,000 turkeys to less-fortunate families across the country.
The couple, who currently grace the cover of Essence magazine, will host 'Steve Harvey's Big Turkey Give Day' at the Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago and Adrianna's in Markham, Ill.
At the Nov. 23 events, the Harveys will give away 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 ropes of turkey sausage courtesy of Hillshire Farm. There will also be health screenings, music, prizes and games.
The New York Times best-selling author is also taking part in a national turkey giveaway with his 'Steve Harvey Morning Show' and its 53 affiliate stations. Sam's Club will deliver the turkeys to each station.
Elsewhere, the brothers from Cash Money Records, which just celebrated its 10th year in the music business, is hosting their 13th annual Turkey Giveaway on Nov.24.
Ronald and Bryan Williams, the label's co-CEOs, are heading back to their native New Orleans to hand out around 1500 turkeys, as well as other fixings.
"This makes us feel just as good as those getting the turkeys," Ronald "Slim" Williams (right) said. This is our way of giving back to the community and the city of New Orleans that Cash Money owes their heart and soul to."

THE TURKEY'S ARE GREAT AND I'M SURE WILL BE APPRECIATED, HOWEVER WHAT ABOUT ALL THE ITEMS THAT GO ALONG WITH MAKING THANKSGIVING FEAST, NOT TO MENTION WHAT ABOUT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WON'T HAVE ELECTRICITY? SEEMS THE POWERS THAT BE WOULD CONSIDER ALL THE FACTORS THAT TRULY MAKE THANKSGIVING A TIME TO BE THANKFUL. You're right. Steve Harvey, should buy them a house with furniture/appliances, pay their utilities, send over a chef, a maid to clean up behind them, and tuck them in at night. If he cannot do allll of that, then why bother doing anything at all.

You know people like you make me sick. This man is giving back and you are complaining. What are you doing to giving back to your community? Are you helping these people out in a way? If you want them to have a house then you go buy it. Aleast he is doing something nice. People always want to talk about how famous people should give back but the never do nothing to give back theirselves.

I VOLUNTEER EVERY YEAR AT THANKSGIVING, COOKING AND SERVING, AND I ALSO DONATE MY TIME VECHICLE AND GAS TO PICK UP PEOPLE TO COME FOR THE MEAL... u have got to be kidding me i disagree, u r telling me that if a homeless person gets a turkey they will complain and ask where the greens and cornbread to go with it? What city do u live in becuase it must not be real homeless people. If i have left over food that i even bit off of already and give to a homeless they try to kiss my hand here in San Francisco.

Can someone please come up with something besides the stand by turkey giveaway to poor black folks? Posts like this are my motivation to become a multi-billionaire so I can match my intelligence with material wealth and create meaningful opportunities for my people that don't end up in the toilet the next day. Hunger is an important issue to address but one day a year does not cut it. Giving away donated turkeys and turkey sausages is a very shallow give back to the communities who nurture these celebrities into stardom and mega-wealth. How about starting a microloan program so that individuals in these same communities can start on the path to entrepreneurship? Put some of your money into social entrepreneurship, instead of just feeding bellies, conjure up something that can feed hungry minds and souls! I wish these people loved to share the spotlight as much as they love to be in it! But then again, they continue to be applauded by blogs and other media outlets for doing what it is only right to do. I would love to read about someone doing something really extraordinary for other people who could really use the publicity to help spread the message of their cause. 'Black Voices,' are you listening?

mzztlove, you should had quit when you only had one foot in your mouth. Again what have you done, or what are you doing to give the people all the trimmings to go with the turkeys. I don't think too many homeless people will get a turkey. Maybe you need to get your homies and buy the trimmings for the turkeys that Steve Harvey is handing out. And, how do you know that someone else (other than you) is or not providing the trimmings.
And Hope, I don't think that you have ever been hungry. Many of the low income (unemployed) families do not even have something to eat on many other days. I can also sit at this terminal and think of many other things that wealthy Black American do to improve the lives of some Blacks. Steve Harvey and others are just seeing that young Black and White children at least for one day, can sit done at the table at eat what many Americans will be eating ob Thanksgiving.
