Thanksgiving is a time to fellowship with family and friends. Yet, every year ,millions of people go without food on this special day.
In the spirit of giving, a few big names are doing their part.
Radio and TV personality Steve Harvey and his wife, Marjorie, are handing out more than 6,000 turkeys to less-fortunate families across the country.
The couple, who currently grace the cover of Essence magazine, will host 'Steve Harvey's Big Turkey Give Day' at the Lawndale Christian Health Center in Chicago and Adrianna's in Markham, Ill.
At the Nov. 23 events, the Harveys will give away 1,000 turkeys and 1,000 ropes of turkey sausage courtesy of Hillshire Farm. There will also be health screenings, music, prizes and games.
The New York Times best-selling author is also taking part in a national turkey giveaway with his 'Steve Harvey Morning Show' and its 53 affiliate stations. Sam's Club will deliver the turkeys to each station.
Elsewhere, the brothers from Cash Money Records, which just celebrated its 10th year in the music business, is hosting their 13th annual Turkey Giveaway on Nov.24.
Ronald and Bryan Williams, the label's co-CEOs, are heading back to their native New Orleans to hand out around 1500 turkeys, as well as other fixings.
"This makes us feel just as good as those getting the turkeys," Ronald "Slim" Williams (right) said. This is our way of giving back to the community and the city of New Orleans that Cash Money owes their heart and soul to."

These turkeys and any gifts of food and love are welcome for so many. I give a dollar or two all the time. I even bought a man 2 items off the dollar menu while in line at McDonalds. He was so thankful and I knew that would not solve his problems but he had the energy to fight through this struggle a few hours longer. What they are doing is outstanding GOD BlESS !!!

Thank you Stevelc, Bro Alan & Teri......
That 1st comment is soooo out of line. The sad thing about it, she doesn't get it.
By the way, I work in the social service field. I am one of those people who help others all year around, and many times go above and beyond what is required. I do more then complain about what I think others should do with their time and money.

IF YOU DON'T AGREE WITH IT THAT'S FINE, BUT I PROMISE YOU THIS, IF I GIVE SOMETHING I DON'T JUST GIVE SOME I GIVE ALL, AND TRUST ME IF I HAD THE MONEY AND COULD AFFORD TOO YOU BETTER BELIEVE I WOULD BE GIVING ALL THE TRIMMINGS NOT JUST A TURKEY AND INCASE YOU MISSED IT IN THE ARTICLE, STEVE HARVEY IS GIVING TURKEYS THAT ARE DONATED ... HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO TALK ABOUT PEOPLE PUTTING THEIR FOOD IN THEIR MOUTHS, I BET WHILE YOU SITTING FEASTING I BET YOU NOT THINKING OR PRAYING OR CONCERNING YOURSELF WITH ANYBODY OTHER THEN MAKING SURE YOUR BELLY IS FULL.. I AM THANKFUL FOR YOU STEVE AND EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THIS ECONOMY THAT HAS WHAT ALL AMERICANS DESERVE AND THAT IS A DECENT MEAL AND A DECENT PLACE TO EAT IT.... IF YOU ASSUME THAT BY MY COMMENT I MEAN ANYTHING OTHER THEN THAT THEN THE SHAME ISN'T ON ME THE SHAME IS ON YOU... WHEN YOU GO OUT SHOPPING TO WALK OFF SOME OF THAT TURKEY FEAST BE SURE TO DROP A FEW COINS IN THE BUCKETS FOR THE SALVATION ARMY BECAUSE SURE AS THANKSGIVING IS A COUPLE DAYS AWAY CHRISTMAS IS SURE TO FOLLOW... LET'S JUST HOPE THOSE WHO HAVE ALL THE SPOTLIGHT ON THEM MAKE IT SHINE BRIGHTER THEN A TURKEY...

Hello my name is Michael Gordon I was born in Brooklyn NY I am 32 years old. My mom and dad struggled through their lives raising my two brothers and two sisters. Both my sisters suffer from breast cancer my older brother has diabetes and I have high blood pressure with a slight heart problem. Only one brother has good health.
My parents still live in the same apartment I was raised in since my birth. In 1999 I left New York and moved to Maryland where I worked off to books and saved money to create my dream.
In 2006 I started a radio station and media company “Show and Prove Radio and Media” The company did do a great deal of community out reach amongst other things. We found what everyone knew there were very little things to occupy the youth but no one was doing anything about it. If someone stood up and put together programs for young people things would change. Giving young people an alternative to the streets in the only way to keep them away from gangs and gang activity.
Two years after starting “Show and Prove Radio and Media” I lost the company. The home, which I rented, was foreclosed on, and we were put on the street. After remodeling the basement of this house and installing thousands in equipment we lost everything, due to a dead beat landlord.
This has not stopped my passion. I have been living with family going from house to house but I have to rebuild. In the attempt to rebuild I have gone to banks for loans of course without success. The company was not around long enough to establish enough credit for a loan. These are just minor set backs, I will rebuild.
My passion is to help the young people has taken shape in the form of an 800 service. “Before you pick up the gun, call someone!” This teenage out reach service will be built for young men and women on the edge. Giving these young people someone to turn to 24 hours and day seven days a week. The 800 services will be free from every phone including cell phones. We will accept calls and text messages and even chirps for cell phone walkies. After all almost all young people today have a cell phone of some type; this puts our assistance into the palm of their hands.
I would advertise digital resources along with traditional commercials. Using my contacts that I have made in the Hip Hop industry. Hip Hop Crime Stoppers can be a great pilot for young people because urban music reaches and great deal of young people. Music artist and entertainers will give young people a resource that the streets have in the past. This 800 service will act as a surrogate when parents can’t be there.
After the 800 services are established the service will branch off to centers in inner city communities where they are needed most. Giving young people a place to go when there is no place. The centers will become a second home keeping the kids off the streets, running career guidance programs along with college placement assistance. We can give our young people a chance. After all a great author once said “It takes a village to raise a child”. The hip-hop community can be the village so we can raise our young people in a positive way.
