'Dreamgirls', the story of an up-and-coming 1960s girl group, features over 580 outfits designed by five-time Tony Award-winner William Ivey Long and 184 wigs created by Paul Huntley. The new production officially debuted at the legendary Harlem venue on Nov. 22, fittingly, the place where the show begins and ends.

The cast of 26 stars mostly newcomers, but there are a few notable names in the mix; 'American Idol' finalist Syesha Mercado portrays Deena Jones, a role that superstar Beyonce Knowles made famous in the Academy Award-winning film. Grammy Award-nominated gospel singer Chaz Lamar Sheperd, who has also appeared on 'The Game,' '7th Heaven' and in Broadway's 'The Color Purple' is Curtis Taylor, Jr. and rising Broadway star Chester Gregory (of 'Hairspray' and 'Tarzan' fame) is in the role of James 'Thunder Early.'

Newcomer Moya Angela, who previously starred in 'The Lion King' tour, takes on the role of Effie Melody White, which Jennifer Holliday originated and made Jennifer Hudson an Academy Award winning household name.

'America's Best Dance Crew' judge and 'So You Think You Can Dance' choreographer Shane Sparks co-choreographed the production along with the show's director Robert Longbottom.

This marks the first major New York production since the musical's successful 2006 film. In homage to the film and in an effort to give some new life to the original score, 'Listen' a song performed by Knowles has been added to the show and is a duet between Effie and Deena.
