As they say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to being a celebrity.

The popular adage now applies to Mavis Spencer, daughter of Oscar nominee and Emmy-winning actress Alfre Woodard and producer Roderick Spencer, who will serve as Miss Golden Globe 2010.

She's the fourth African American to hold the title. Former model Rosanne Katon was the first black chosen in 1981. Alexandrea Martin, Whoopi Goldberg's daughter, held the title in 1994, followed by Tori Reed,Tim Reid's daughter, in 1999.

Miss (or Mr.) Golden Globe assists in the ceremony. The title is traditionally held by the progeny of celebrities.

When dolling out advice on how Spencer should condone herself at such a prestigious event, Woodard encouraged her daughter to act like family is around.

"I told Mavis, it's just like your Grandma's cocktail party, find someone who is interesting and have a chat," she said.

Woodard added, "She really is a Renaissance woman. She is a nationally ranked equestrian, she's a show jumper, she's a Shakespeare savant and she's a beautiful actor."

Next year, Spencer is set to attend Columbia University, where she plans to major in acting.

Rumer Willis, daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, served in the position last year. Among other celeb kids who've held the title before blossoming into stars in their own right are Anne Archer (1971), Melanie Griffith (1975), Laura Dern (1982), Joely Fisher (1992), Freddie Prinze Jr. (1996), Clementine Ford (1998), and Susan Lucci's daughter Liza Huber (2000).

Nominations for the 2010 Golden Globes will be announced Dec. 15. The ceremony will air Jan. 17.
