Nas can't seem to catch a break.
Just last week, news spread that the platinum-selling rapper, whose real name is Nasir Olu Bin Dara Jones, had been arrested for DUI on Sept.10 in Stockbridge, GA. Now, comes news that the Queensbridge, New York bred MC was ordered by Judge David Cunningham III to increase his monthly child- and spousal-support payments to estranged wife Kelis and their infant son, Knight.
After Kelis successfully proved she had difficulty earning money as a new mother and that Nas planned to release two new albums in 2010, the Los Angeles Superior Court judge determined he made enough money in recent months to pay additional support.
According to the Associated Press, his previous court-mandated $40,000 a month payments have now been bumped up to $51,101 – which will equal up to over $600,000 a year.
His attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan expressed Nas' approval of the decision given his client's reprieve of paying the former couple's Los Angeles residence.
TMZ reported that the couple, who married four years ago, tried to reconcile in Sept. to no avail.
As previously reported in BV Newswire, Kelis signed a deal with Interscope Records via Black Eyed Peas frontman's Will.I.Am Music Group and is working on an as-yet-untitled new album

Now I have always said that a divorce is not a instant lotto ticket and if someone needs over 10k a month from somebody else to take care of their child, I say it should always be joint coustady unless there is some child abuse going on. An absorbent amount of support is so out of wack, if it is or when it is neded, it should be for no more than a yr, of course unless there is some serious medical conditions that the other spouse has caused, at the very least make sure that the other spouse takes care of the mecical. There are allot of people having a hard time getting employment, she or if it was an he should get out there and beat the pavements like everyone else....talk about greed, if one can't budget themselves to live off over 40k, then the courts should put fthe child in the other parents costady until they can learn how to budget or if they don't lower the payments until they do or make them get employment in a yr or they will be cut off...come on now man..........What ever happened to a person paying their own way, making their own monies, wow times have changed, the courts have done nothing but made it a glorified welfare system

Why is it that some one (idiots) have to come up with a racial slant to almost any subject that is simply looking for feelings one might have on it.So many times I have just wished that I had the what with to do whatever with to all of the agitators that have nothing to do except to try to get a derogertory bunch of crap going.

Nothing stops most men from joint custody. Unfortunately, many (not all) men would rather let the woman keep the kid so she can have restraints on her lifestyle and schedule, while they live the single life, so that's the price they pay. Nas has enough money to pay an attorney if joint physical custody is an issue. With joint custody one thing men have to understand upfront is to file for joint custody as soon as the baby is born because once the child has bonded and lived exclusively with the mother, and is doing fine in the courts eyes, the courts will not remove that child from with that mother. The man a man will get then is visitation. In many states joint custody does not mean 50/50. In most cases the child stays primarily with one parent and the otehr parent pays child support, and this is even with joint custody. Joint custody usually means both parents have the legal rights.
