Despite his six-year legal ordeal, Robert Sylvester Kelly, better known as R. Kelly, has stayed quiet about his child pornography allegations. Rarely do we hear of an interview in which he discusses his many controversial happenings. Instead, the Chicago native has expressed himself through his music.
But, now R. Kelly has decided it is time to share his story, and he's doing so in his as-yet-untitled memoir.
The three-time Grammy Award winner has chosen Tavis Smiley's SmileyBooks to publish his story, and Smiley couldn't be happier. The company has recently released Cornel West's 'Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud, A Memoir,' as well as books from Iyanla Vanzant and Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
"We are thrilled to be the conduit through which R.Kelly will tell his story," Smiley announced. "He has earned the right to tell his story his own way."
Kelly, who just released his 10th studio album, 'Untitled,' on Dec. 1, has teamed with celebrity author David Ritz to co-write the tome. Ritz previously penned memoirs for Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, B.B. King and Aretha Franklin.
The 'I Believe I Can Fly' singer said his frustration with being misunderstood fueled his desire to share his story.
"I'm writing this book as Robert, not R. Kelly," Kelly said.
R. Kelly's memoir is scheduled for release by SmileyBooks in early 2011.

R. KELLY LIKE SO MANY OF US HAVE ISSUES, HOWEVER, WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE HIM AFTER THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM VINDICATED HIM. I'M ONE OF HIS BIGGEST FANS IN TEXAS. THIS YOUNG MAN WAS RAISED BY A SINGLE BLACK FEMALE THAT PROVIDED A STRONG SPIRTUAL FOUNDATION. IF YOU LISTEN TO SOME OF THE SONGS SUCH AS YOU SAVED ME, PRAYER HELPS, THE SERMON, ETC, YOU CAN HEAR AND FEEL HIS TESTIMONY. R HAS A 2 FACED PERSONALITY PROTRAYED IN HIS SONGS -ONE BEING THE RAUNCHY SIDE AND THE OTHER BEING A SOUL WITH A STRONG SPIRTUAL CALLING. I FEEL IN HIS LATER YEARS THE SPIRTUAL SIDE WILL WIN AND HE WILL GO IN THE RECORD BOOKS AS THE GREATEST SONG WRITER, PRODUCER, MINISTER OF OUR TIMES. DID YOU KNOW HE FOUNDED/PRODUCED TRINITY 7 (THE GOSPEL FEMALE GROUP? BEFORE YOU JUDGE AND COME TO ANY CONCLUSION RESEARCH HIS HISTORY, READ HIS STORY!!

r. kelly, for whatever he has done in his life:good, bad and ugly will have to come to terms with those as qwe al do, BUT leave it to black people to sit and do God's job and judge someone else, so, yes it is sad when our people do sinful things (judge)....

He is a genuis. God is the only judge and he is a forgiving God. How do you know if he did do it; that he didn't ask God for forgiveness.
