Disney's new animated feature 'The Princess and the Frog' was tops at the box office over the weekend. The new film, which opened nationwide Dec. 11, brought in close to $25 million at the domestic box office, making it the highest-grossing start ever for an animated movie in December.
According to studio estimates, its worldwide total is currently $32 million.
A new take on the Grimm Brothers' classic fairy tale about a prince turned into a frog, with the princess becoming the amphibian., 'Princess' features the voices of Tony Award winning actress Anika Noni Rose as Princess Tiana. The film, which takes place in New Orleans during the Jazz Age, is written and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, who together worked their magic on 'Aladdin' and 'The Little Mermaid.'
The musical, which also features the voices of Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, Jenifer Lewis and Keith David, is Disney's first hand-drawn animated tale in five years – a departure to the computer-animated films that now dominate the animation industry.
Princess Tiana is making headlines as Disney's first African-American princess, but according to a spokesperson, she is also making history as the first American-born princess. Other notable "princess" characters – Snow White, Mulan, Cinderella – do not have native American birthplaces. Tiana does.
Other top earners over the weekend include the feel-good Sandra Bullock drama 'The Blind Side' ($15.4 million), Morgan Freeman's critically-acclaimed Nelson Mandela-inspired flick 'Invictus' ($9 million), the sensational vampire sequel 'The Twilight Saga: New Moon' ($8 million) and Disney' other big animated movie of the season, 'A Christmas Carol' ($6,8 million).

Sounds like Mikey needs a warm baby bottle!!Mikey, if this is your attitude toward women in general...I know why>>>BLACK WOMEN DONT WANT YOU!! Your little pee brain is too small to comprehend the bigger picture. Love is not a color or ethnicity its a feeling. Women are individuals, your experience with one should not determine how you feel about the whole entire race. There is not enough time for me to raise your level of intelligence..So,lol. I will just laugh at you. My entire family enjoyed this movie!! Its a keepsake.

it's just a movie. Get over it. You should really grow up. You can't help who you fall in love with. You sound really racist right now. maybe you should think about what you say next time before you decide to put all over the Internet.

I went to see the movie with my 11 yr. old sister and about 15 of friends her age... we had all the kids dress up like princess'. We turned the event into a party with raffle prizes and games before the movie and best dressed contest. Anyways, the movie was great everyone had a great time... being a black young lady, in my 21 years I had no disney movie that i could watch and see someone that looked like me!!! The move was a sweet yummu bliss, let's focus on the positive.

my other post went in a reply to mike and might get lost in all the abuse to him lol.
why is it that people are so outraged when a sista wants to date outside her race but if a black male does it well its celebrated and shouted from the roof tops.
if a sista finds her man and he happens to be white then good for her the main aim is for her to be happy and for me i am so happy we have a black animated princess.

I went to see The Princess and the Frog. I was so disappointed. I did not have a black barbie or brown doll growing up. So I go into the theater with my hopes and laughter in my heart. Thinking Hollywood has finally arrived. Maybe because we have a Black President. The princess is a frog for most of the darn Movie. Oh and she is not a princess until she marries the prince. Save your Money, Until Tyler Perry makes us a real animated princess ........

OMG, I start reading the comments post and almost let you steal my Joy. I watch this movie with my beautiful dark skin African American Granddaughter and was proud. She actually made the comment Grandma she kinda looks like me, I said yes she does baby. LOL that’s all I needed to hear and passed the popcorn. I have been dreaming of this day for 20 years thank god she will not have to go thru her life with only the first three Princesses on her wall posters. So yall can stop bring your kinky pass and baggage into this one she is black and blacker than Obama. No disrespect because he doesn’t deserve it. THANK YOU DISNEY!!!!
