Earlier this week, BV Newswire reported that Mariah Carey accepted her Palm Springs International Film Festival award for her role in 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire' seeming a little out of it. Video clips of her speech made the rounds on the Web, making her one of the week's most-buzzed-about celebrities.
Now, the Grammy Award winner is jokingly putting the blame on director Lee Daniels ... and the bubbly.
"We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee, but he's a bad influence," Carey said backstage at Wednesday's 'People's Choice Awards.'
"The thing is me and Lee hadn't see each other in a long time, and then he was presenting my award, so he starts off immediately with inside jokes," she continued.
The 39-year-old music icon added she didn't eat enough, confirming she was a bit tipsy, but added that people shouldn't take the speech too serious.
"If people don't understand me and think I'm just like this girl that stands by a microphone and sings 'Hero,' then they're definitely not going to get me," Carey explained.
She charged, "But if people knew me better, they would understand I have a sense of humor, and basically that's what gets me through life."

It's not that serious;celebrities are human. If it possible to happen to anyone that drinks alcohol and especially on a empty stomach. I strongly feel that she isnt a big or regular alcohol drinker. Really, what did she do wrong? Slurred speech, a little giggly.

I thought Mariah was VERY real with it!! "I'm a little..." "drunk" "...yea." I thought that was priceless!! She gets it in from time to time like everyone else!! People accuse her of being "fake," I argue that she is one of the realest! She's not concerned with trying to be too cool, or overly proper. She's very real about stuff, it's her personality type.

Sounds like George Bush, jr., the admitted "reformed" alcoholic. The buck for putting the blame on someone else stops here. The alcoholic didn`t drink Mariah. Real folks are sober. Drunks are artificially flavored. She could have been excited, giggly, giddy, sober. She chose not to be. Lee Daniels, Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker, Jim Beam, etc. bad influences? If so, get rid of them. Be a good influence on yourself. Is Nick Cannon or Mariah Carey a good influence or a bad influence? Lee Daniels did not do Mariah`s drinking for her. If this is the tip of the iceberg of a large problem, which it may or may not be, deal with it, solve the problem. Speaking of artificially flavored, nice high beam headlights on that CUV.

I love Mariah Carey. She's the most talented singer and performer -- just has the whole package.. has it all! No other performer over the past almost 2 decades compares to her.

Trish, I agree with you that Mariah's a very talented vocalist/entertainer, but to say that no one else in the last 20 years can compare with her is a little extreme. Just a few of those in the last 20 years who easily compare to Mariah at her best when they were at their best singing their own style of music are Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, Dolly Parton, Cher, and Shania Twain - superstars and a pleasure to watch and listen to - each and every one, including Mariah. However, I agree with one other poster on this board, while she still has that excellent voice she should do some straight ballads. As for her being a little tipsy, she's more than earned the right to celebrate a little in advance. In any case, it wasn't anything major and she was straight up about it with the public, and her fans at the event who obviously enjoyed seeing her and who appreciated her honesty about her condition.

We all watched Michael Jackson and turned our heads for years. If Mariah Carey is ill lets pray that she takes a serious look at her performance and seeks assistance now. If this is an out of character event, I am sure she is truly embarressed and will put herself in check. Love, and Gods blessings to her.
