Several of our favorite celebrities are sending support to help the people of Haiti, who tragically suffered widespread devastation from an earthquake on Jan.12.
Doctors Without Borders announced that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt contributed $1 million to the organization's emergency medical operations. The couple had previously visited Haiti with Wyclef Jean.
Fabolous, Diddy, Taraji P. Henson and Ludacris have all urged their fans to donate through fellow entertainer Wyclef's foundation, Yele.
By quickly mobilizing a text message campaign, allowing people to donate $5 by texting the word "Yele" to 501501, the Grammy Award winner is said to have amassed hundreds of thousands of dollars in relief funds for his native country.
The Red Cross text message campaign has already grossed more than $1 million in less than 24 hours.
Lance Armstrong pledged $250,000 through his LiveStrong nonprofit and the New York Yankees pledged half a million. Russell Simmons reported that Tiger Woods was donating a cargo plane to get relief to the troubled city of Port-au-Prince.
On her talk show on Wednesday, Oprah Winfrey asked viewers to donate to the Red Cross. "This is a time where we, as a global nation, should come together and support those who are in need," Winfrey said.
Usher is also urging young people to get involved.
"I am devastated by the news in Haiti and am calling for youth worldwide to support and offer assistance to the millions of people in that area that are in dire need. I am currently working with Usher's New Look, my nonprofit organization, to figure out the most effective means of help," Usher said.
"With Haiti in a state of emergency right now, young people do have the power to save lives. I am asking young people of all ages to mobilize by organizing local fundraisers with the proceeds going to their peers in Haiti. This is one way we all can make a difference."
The 'Confessions' singer will post information on his Web site, UshersNewLook.org, about fundraising and service projects designed to raise money for Haiti relief.

Some are helping. Others, like Oprah, are just asking other people to help. I didn't see where Oprah was individually contributing anything by herself.

The Bible speakes of not being boastful, so if you dont hear any dollar amount from some people (Oprah and others) that does not mean they have not contibuted. When you give from the heart, the only one needs to know is you and God.

You have the right to spend your money how you see fit. I wonder if you are of african decent. I write about the skepticism of Blacks giving to organizations set up by their own cultural group, for example, Wyclef Jean, the Ludacris Foundation, the Tyler Perry Foundation. Abover all it about choice; however, cultural conditioning is the underlying impetus to choice.

Shelly,
The Red Cross and the Good Will steal too! Google them. They are just more established and well known of humanitarian organizations. Remember giving is the important thing. At least you gave something. Its not your fault if they steal .50 out of your $10.00. Just give!

I am always going to remember the stars that are pitching into the crisis in Haiti. Madonna and Brangolina were always the first on the donation line. And D Wade, Al mourning, Will smith and Jada, Usher etc. I am wandering how much will Oprah be donating beside asking others to get involved
