'Sins of the Mother,' starring singer/actress Jill Scott and newcomer Nicole Beharie, became the second most-watched movie in the history of the Lifetime Movie Network during its Feb. 21 premiere.

The film, based on Carleen Brice's best-selling novel 'Orange, Mint and Honey,' was also the second highest rated program in key woman demographics in the network's 12-year history -- bested only by the 2009 'Natalie Holloway' movie.

"I feel honored that so many people enjoyed the film," Scott told the BV Newswire earlier today.

The Grammy Award winning Philly native, who will soon star in Tyler Perry's 'Why Did I Get Married Too,' couldn't be happier being a part of 'Sins.'

Of her role, Scott said: "Nona's character allowed me to expand myself as an actress while learning so much about the profound impact parents have on their children."

Over two and a half million viewers tuned in for 'Sins,' which follows a young graduate student named Shay (played by Beharie) finding herself at a crossroad and moves in with her estranged mother, Nona (played by Scott), who was an alcoholic, but is now sober and has a young daughter.

Amongst African American viewers, the film delivered 490,000 viewers, making it the highest rated and most watched Lifetime Movie Network original program in the network's history among African-Americans.
