The countdown will soon begin for the end of the Salma Hayek-produced 'Ugly Betty.' After four years, the hit ABC dramedy series, based on a Colombian telenovela, will have its season finale in April.
America Ferrera, who took home a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for 'Best Actress in a Comedy Series' for her portrayal of the show's title character, is having a hard time saying goodbye.
"I will miss my cast and the character," Ferrera shared with BV Newswire.
"I really love Betty, and I'm really excited to get to move on and to embody other characters, but there is definitely a sorrow. I've lived with her for so long."
Over the past four years, the cast of 'Ugly Betty' has worked tirelessly, often filming 12-hour days, five days a week, 10 months out of the year -- first in Los Angeles and then in New York. But that hard work has made the group, which consists of Vanessa Williams, Ana Ortiz, Eric Mabius and Judith Light, to name a few, more akin to family than co-stars.
"First and foremost, it's like my family, [and] it's been the last four years of my life, in the most intense way," Ferrera stated.
As for her character, she said, "It's going to be hard to say goodbye, but it's been such an incredible period of my life. This show changed my life. I grew up so much in the course of the show, and I'm just proud of what we've done with it, and I'm so proud of what it's meant to so many people."
Show creator Silvio Horta and Ferrera have been discussing how the show would end since the first season. The 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' star will have input on how things turn out.
"I think that we are going to get a chance to wrap it up and give the characters their due justice," she revealed. "We will get to finish the story lines."
Currently promoting her upcoming film 'Our Family Wedding,' the 25-year-old Los Angeles native is looking forward to a much-needed break.
"I would entertain sleeping for three months," she laughed. "Then taking a long break and seeing what happens organically."
The season finale of 'Ugly Betty' is set to air April 14.

Well, it figures. You have a really good show, that is respectful of many different people, and orientations, and it has to be taken away.
What next! Probably something else, full of smut, vulgar humor and sexual content--like 2 and1/2 men, or something.
Well, you will loose me as a viewer, immediately.

I completely agree. You have a show that, not only gives you an in-depth look in the fashion/magazine world but it also is very respectful and ABC takes it off the air.
Ugly Betty is an amazing series, more amazing then so many others on television, and it's sad to watch it go. It was whitty, funny, full of drama and heels and it brought the ideal of "Looks don't always matter in the big world" into perspective for so many.
I still don't understand why this is being cut.

I can't watch Ugly Betty. It's tooo boring. I just can't relate to her. Maybe bring Eastwick back in Ugly Betty's place. A show about powerful, strong, interesting women is easier to watch.

This is my favorite show and I'm going to miss it so much! :-( I loved the characters, I loved the blend of humor and pathos, and I loved that it was clever and creative. Figures that reality shows stay on the air, but someone of this quality gets axed.

I am going to miss Ugly Betty. Not only is it one of the funniest shows on TV it has heart. Good wins out over evil. The Suarez family is close and loving providing a counterpoint for the backbiting and competition in the fashion world. Truthfully I wish another station would make an option for the show... I want to see what is going to happen. moodysmb

It's all about the bottom line $$...which is a shame..... that something that is well worth watching has the plug pulled on them.
I too wished their option was picked up by another station....enough of these bimbo reality shows!
