The countdown will soon begin for the end of the Salma Hayek-produced 'Ugly Betty.' After four years, the hit ABC dramedy series, based on a Colombian telenovela, will have its season finale in April.
America Ferrera, who took home a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for 'Best Actress in a Comedy Series' for her portrayal of the show's title character, is having a hard time saying goodbye.
"I will miss my cast and the character," Ferrera shared with BV Newswire.
"I really love Betty, and I'm really excited to get to move on and to embody other characters, but there is definitely a sorrow. I've lived with her for so long."
Over the past four years, the cast of 'Ugly Betty' has worked tirelessly, often filming 12-hour days, five days a week, 10 months out of the year -- first in Los Angeles and then in New York. But that hard work has made the group, which consists of Vanessa Williams, Ana Ortiz, Eric Mabius and Judith Light, to name a few, more akin to family than co-stars.
"First and foremost, it's like my family, [and] it's been the last four years of my life, in the most intense way," Ferrera stated.
As for her character, she said, "It's going to be hard to say goodbye, but it's been such an incredible period of my life. This show changed my life. I grew up so much in the course of the show, and I'm just proud of what we've done with it, and I'm so proud of what it's meant to so many people."
Show creator Silvio Horta and Ferrera have been discussing how the show would end since the first season. The 'Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants' star will have input on how things turn out.
"I think that we are going to get a chance to wrap it up and give the characters their due justice," she revealed. "We will get to finish the story lines."
Currently promoting her upcoming film 'Our Family Wedding,' the 25-year-old Los Angeles native is looking forward to a much-needed break.
"I would entertain sleeping for three months," she laughed. "Then taking a long break and seeing what happens organically."
The season finale of 'Ugly Betty' is set to air April 14.

Jeremy, I totally agree with you. I watched a few episodes of the show when it started and it didn't take long to realize it was just another boring liberal propaganda show. Premise: Illegal alien's anchor baby makes good. I'd like to see a return of feel good family shows like The Waltons or Touched By An Angel. I'm glad it's leaving the air.

" Ugly Betty " show is really awesome since the characters are really interesting, dramatic , very creative. It's sad to see them go and the actors and actresses have to move on and find something else to do when the show's over. America loves that show as much as I do.

We can all make a difference if we do not accept this and in masses Mail and E-Mail ABC that we want this show to stay. Other programs have been saved why is this any different?

I wish Betty would write an article that wins a Pulitzer. She has been through so much; she would deserve that honor.

ABC killed this show when the moved it from Thursdays to Fridays and then to Wednesdays causing the viewership to drop. We are losing a quality show.

We watched it faithfully until it was moved to Friday. We tried but that was a bad slot. Then it moved to Wednesday. Again, we tried to watch but always fell asleep about 5-10 minutes in. Stupid network executives for changing the time slot in the first place. You get a following and forget that people are creatures of habit. If I didn't know better I'd think it was on NBC instead of ABC. NBC stands for "No Body Cares".
