Not one to rest on her laurels -- from her big win at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards and more recently the 41st NAACP Image Awards -- funnywoman Mo'Nique has her eyes set on the Oscars. She is nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in 'the Lee Daniels-directed film Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire.' My very best to Monique. I am over sixty years of age, black and female and have seen a lot of changes as we struggle for even the tiny bits of equality. I am saddened that some of our people thought that getting a black man in the white house was all it took, then we went back to sagging pants, robbing, killing and our babies are kicking each other in the streets and on camera and it negates the whole point.
Yes, in my opinion, Monique AND Wendy Williams are kind of "out there" so to speak. I have a lot more respect for Monique because she is doing her thing.
I pray that she will stop screaming and cursing because she has arrived somewhat and believes she still has to "act" a certain way to keep her audience. Her portrayal of the abusive mother in Precious should win her an oscar and the young woman who played the title role ( people seem to forget) should get one as well. I know that only one can get the oscar, so I will be watching closely to see who does. I still love and support my people, no matter what. Oh, and "keeping it real" does not mean "keeping it ghetto". We do not need to celebrate our dysfunctions.

I wish Monique the very best - she's a strong and beautiful Black woman. But I have a problem watching the show because everything is over the top. When she's being cool, she's too cool; when she's trying to be sincere, she tends to go overboard with that as well.
Another thing is, the show reminds me too much of a modern day minstrel show. They never come off as thoughtful. They act like they can't be still - they're always grinnin', bouncin', and dancin'. There's more to Black people than that.
In my opinion, they don't represent Black people well, at all. All they need is Black paint on their face and White lips, and we're right back in the 19th century.
That ain't keepin' it real - that is, unless you consider Stepin' Fetchit real.

Considering what Monique elevated herself from ( molestation, abusive marriage, single motherhood, etc. ) I'd say she has DEFINTELY changed
the game. Yes, I believe the cursing is a bit much, particularly because it adds NO BENEFIT to her tv talk show. Just love the LESSONS LEARNED summary at the show and the HUG.
There is a subset of historical black women who, inspite of their shortcommings, managed to call the world to a higher consciences from the darkness of IGNORANCE . . . Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Oprah Winfrey. These women ushered in LIBERATION particularly for blacks but also for any person being denied the FREEDOM TO CHOOSE. MONIQUE HAS THIS SAME POTENTIAL TO LEAD.
Monique's Mary Jones portrayal was incredible! Win or lose at the Academy Awards this Sunday, MONIQUE IS ALREADY A WINNER IN MY BOOK! She has the eyes and ears of the world at this time. I pray she uses this attention to benefit the world; of course her own blessings will increase a hundred fold.
