The BV Newswire previously reported that MC Guru of hip-hop group Gang Starr suffered a cardiac episode earlier this week and was in a coma.

Guru's longtime production partner Superproducer Solar has spoken out about the rumors surrounding the condition of the rapper, whose real name Keith Elam.

"Guru is resting and doing well after his surgery," Superproducer Solar said in a video blog post, which hit the web March 3. "The doctors say that he will fully recover from his illness."

But, now, the 43 year-old rapper, who underwent surgery in March, is on the road to recovery and putting out his own statement letting his fans know that he is alive and well.

"I am doing fine and I am recovering," Guru said. The Massachusetts native, who confessed he was weak, made sure to note that only one person has been given access to speak about his health condition. "Solar is the only person who has the accurate info on my situation. Any info from anybody else is false! I appreciate your well wishes and all the love!"

Guru's group-mate Christopher 'DJ Premier' Martin posted the news on his blog, DJPremiereBlog.Blogspot.com.
Since founding Gang Starr in 1985, Guru has remained the only founding member of the hip-hop group. After teaming with DJ Premier in 1989, the duo rose to success with the single 'Words I Manafest' from the 1989 album 'No More Mr. Nice Guy.'

The group was best known for merging a gritty New York hip-hop sound with jazz elements. Most notably, their track 'Jazz Thing' was featured on the soundtrack to Spike Lee's film 'Mo' Better Blues.'

Guru's 1993 debut solo album 'Jazzmatazz, Vol.1' featured collaborations with Roy Ayers and N'Dea Davenport and its follow-up 'Jazzmatazz, Vol.2' included appearances from Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai. His most recent solo album 'Guru 8.0' was released in May of 2009.
