On the Scene: Red Carpet Coverage from the 82nd Annual Academy Awards

Comments (6)

Every year, The Academy Awards showcases some of the top fashion worn by Hollywood's biggest stars. This year's red carpet festivities proved no different.

From Mariah Carey clad in a Marilyn Monroe-esque ensemble to Mo'Nique in a royal blue gown fit for a queen, and 'Avatar' star Zoe Saldada in a dreamy peach and purple dress, the variety of outfits was uncanny.

Here are Blackvoices.com's look at some of the 82nd Annual Academy Awards Red Carpet highlights.

Radio jock and 'American Idol' host Ryan Seacrest, a mainstay on the red carpet, spoke to some of the biggest celebrities on the red carpet.
Carey, who starred in 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire,' walked the red carpet early with her husband, Nick Cannon. She revealed her high slit to Seacrest saying, "That's the look of it that's the rarity." After getting her diamond bracelet stuck on her dress, she joked, "diamonds are a girl's best friend."

Seacrest asked how she was staying put in the dress, "are you stuffed in?" Carey said, "I was concerned about that so I had them build the bodysuit."

Carey added, "I would definitely play a role that was stripped down and this movie is classic for all times."

Newly engaged couple Nicole Richie and Joel Madden stopped by for a second and stayed mum on details of their upcoming nuptials.

Tyler Perry, an executive producer on 'Precious,' wore a suit by Prada.

Of 'Precious,' he said getting Oprah Winfrey involved was easy, "I'm happy for everyone involved. I called her after I watched the movie because they thought it was going to go straight to DVD,"

Perry said: 'She had it in her purse and it was meant to be."

Grammy Award winning rock star Lenny Kravitz, who also starred in 'Precious,' brought his daughter, Zoe Kravitz to the ceremony.

He said that the story and Lee Daniels were the reason he signed up for the film. "I knew it was going to be great," Kravitz, who shared that he's currently in the studio working on a new album due this fall, said, then added, "the whole story of Gabby [Sibide] is absolutely amazing."

Perry, who has been on tour with his latest stage play since January says he is happy to live full-time in Atlanta. "I like being away from it so you can be focused and focus on what's real."

Sandra Bullock, who's up for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 'The Blind Side,' said the real-life Leann Tully "scared me...she still scares me." She played down her chances for winning an Oscar saying, "I'm the most pessimistic person...pull the plug on the anticipation."

Gabourey Sibide nominated for Best Actress for her debut acting performance in 'Precious' was greeted with kisses from Woody Harrelson. The New York native said: "if fashion was porn, this dress would be the money shot."

"I'm a normal person in a fantasy world. I don't believe my life. This is craziness," she gushed.

Sidibe also said she wants to do a movie with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in the future.

On ABC, 'The View' co-host Sherri Shepherd, who also starred in 'Precious,' interviewed some of the big celebrities walking the red carpet.

"I don't think my feet are touching. Are my feet, down, Maggie?" Monique joked with her co-nominee for Best Supporting Actress, Maggie Gylenhall.

Morgan Freeman, nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role for 'Invictus' brought his daughter Morgana was his date.
