In the wee hours of the morning on March 6, Grammy award–winning R&B singer D'Angelo was arrested and charged with solicitation for allegedly sexually propositioning an undercover policewoman in New York City's West Village.
Now, D'Angelo, whose real name is Michael Archer, has issued an official statement through his spokesperson, Lindsay Guion, denying the charges.
"We would like his fans and the public at large to know that the 36 year-old has [pled] not guilty -- and is contesting the allegations made against him," Guion said.
"D'Angelo would like to personally thank all of his fans for the outpouring of concern, and appreciates if all would allow the American justice system to resolve the matter before jumping to any conclusions."
Finding this forum an opportune time to throw in a new music plug, the manager added, "Also know that, he is in good health and extremely excited about his forthcoming new album."
The 'How Does It Feel' singer is said to have offered a New York Police Officer $40 in exchange for oral sex. A police search revealed a stash of $12,000 in cash.
D'Angelo reportedly is recording new music due this summer. The long-awaited comeback effort was scheduled for release via J Records last year.

I hope D'angelo gets his life back on track. I don't understand why he would be soliciting sex from anyone.

Nowadays, you can't even say hello to a woman without getting charged with sexual harrassment.
...and black women wonder why they can't get a man.

I'm offended in the sense that people really can't understand the life a "celebrity " leads. They have the same day to day struggles that the rest of us have. The only difference is that they live life under a microscope. In the justice system, you are innocent untilled you are convicted of a crime and sentenced. It also kills me how people say the worse things about some people and stand on it like these people have personal relationships and all that they know of a celebrity is the 20 second blurb they see in the media or a 3 minute song or video. These people do what they do for our entertainment not to be picked apart. Example...........OJ Simpson was found not guilty but will never live that part of his life like that was the verdict. Michael Jackson was also found not guilty in both of his trials but his legacy will always have child molester attached to it. Yet after his death people act likes they wasn't just saying the most horrible things about him and his kids whle most never knew him or walked a day in his shoes.
All I'm saying iis that these are jst people and we need to treat them as such and quit putting them up so high to fall so far iif they don't live up to what we expect and want them to be
