Gabourey Sidibe: Street-Performing Mom Responds to Howard Stern

They say there's nothing like a mother's love.

And that's a good thing for one of Hollywood's most raved about break-out actresses.

Gabourey Sidibe's mom is dismissing controversial remarks made by syndicated radio personality Howard Stern about the Oscar-nominated actress' weight.

Alice Tan Ridley, a powerhouse vocalist who performs in New York City subway stations for a living, said that the legendary shock jock should "get a life" during an interview with the TV show 'Inside Edition.'

Sidibe, the star of the Lee Daniels-directed drama 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' By Sapphire,' was nominated for Best Actress but lost the award to Sandra Bullock on March 7.

As previously reported by BV Newswire, Stern and his sidekick Robin Quivers incited a firestorm of controversy for their comments about the 26-year-old actress.

"She's the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen," Stern proclaimed, in reaction to watching Sidibe on the star-studded award show. "People are out of their minds... we are the only people telling this girl the truth," Quivers furthered, in response to the media attention their remarks garnered.

"I see it over and over again. Back to Nell Carter, who used to say that 'I love being fat' and then she got sick and died," she added, after mentioning how Mo'Nique and Sherri Shepherd suffered from diabetes.

After the producers of 'Inside Edition' replayed the hard criticism for her, Ridley said: "He can see, you can see, I can see Gabby is a big girl. She's a big woman, so what's wrong with that? She's not like everyone else in the world."

"I don't see him giving jobs out to anybody so why should we care what he says? He might not hire her, but someone else will," she added.

Ridley went on to say that her daughter will keep her head held high despite what anyone may say about her. "You're going to be who you are no matter what anyone has to say about it ... They didn't make you, don't let them break you."
