You'd think that a one year jail sentence at Riker's Island would be a safe place for Lil' Wayne to stay out of trouble with the law, but one pre-existing charge may cause some problems for the thug rap icon.
An Arizona judge issued a bench warrant on March 16 after the 27 year-old, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, failed to appear for a final trial management conference hearing on drug and weapon charges because he is serving jail time.
Maybe the judge doesn't watch TV or read the newspapers (or blogs). Lil' Wayne reported to serve a one year prison sentence in New York City last week.
The Grammy Award-winning MC's attorney, James Tilson, filed motions to have the March 30 trial date vacated.
He also asked to allow the New Orleans native to appear after he finishes his New York jail sentence and for the bond to remain the same.
"It does not appear that a trial will be occurring anytime within the next eight to 12 months," Tilson said.
But, prosecutor Deann Sandry has asked that the bench warrant be issued since Wayne is now a convicted felon. Sandry is also urging the court to increase his bond to $150,000.
These charges stem from a Jan. 2008 incident, where Lil' Wayne was arrested at a border checkpoint 78 miles east of Yuma, Arizona after authorities say they found cocaine, ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.
He has since pleaded not guilty to one count each of possession of a narcotic drug for sale, possession of dangerous drugs, misconduct involving weapons and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Let's keep it real. The only people I see that pay the price for breaking the law are black. Britney/Paris/Lindsey and countless other white people, males and females are still walking around breaking the law and you know it.

No one is above the law. But if we as African Americans know that the justice system is harsher toward us, then we should not commit the crime. Why does this guy carry a gun in the first place? Why does he have cocaine or ecstasy on the bus? If you want to get high, get high at home in your own dwelling. I am not an advocate of drugs because drugs destroy lives. I do believe in the first amendment, the right to bear arms. But what is ironic about this is Caucasian men were carrying guns to political rallies and no one was arrested. Lil Wayne should have had the gun registered. When these rappers rap about the thug life that is what they get in return. Law enforcement is going to treat them like thugs.

It's ashame but it seems like all these young rappers have to go through times like this to make them a better man, T.I's going through it, snoop dogg been through it and is now a better and smarter and more responsible person because of it. You can show these young successful kids the right way to go, but it's up to them to follow that road, unfortunately most choose to learn the hard way, some never learn (dmx).

These court people are totally stupid at times ... serving someone a bench warrant while in JAIL. I know it happens because it happened to ME one time! Got locked up for driving on a suspended license and I had a court appearance for a related charge which of course, I couldn't get to because of where I was. They issued a bench warrant. I mentioned to the judge I saw on the second issue and he threw it out! So ... Lil Wayne, I DO understand, but please keep your butt out of trouble ...

We always like to use the line "keep it real" ok than let"s. It's makes known difference what white folks do and get away with; we as a black nation no oh so very well that we just can't do what they do and get-away-with-it period. It's ain't fair, it's just the way it is here in this go-old-USA. With that in mind we must always watch our backs and do the right thing...and this is another example.....This young artist is now known as just another black thug....regardless to how much money he makes....Tiger Woods, Detroit's ex mayor, Kobe, Monica Conyers......New Yorks Gov..and the list goes on....Do they trip (white folks), yes...but for the most part there's is handle much differently...ask Martha Steward

This is stupid and a waste of tax payers money. If he is already incarcerated how can he show up in court? If anything they should have arranged with the court to do a teleconference appearance. But I guess because they want to prove a point they feel that wasting tax payers money is worth it.
