Recently, Scott – a divorcee and single mother – started wearing a new hat; as a relationship columnist for Essence magazine.
In the April edition of the best-selling black women's monthly, the 'Hate On Me' singer tackles interracial love with a provocative entry titled 'The Wince.'
"In our past, if a black man even looked at a white woman, he would have been lynched," Scott wrote in the 'I'm Just Sayin'' column. Her thought-provoking entry has engaged a heated dialogue on the Time Inc.-owned magazine's website.
Black Voices caught up to Scott to ask her about the article -- while she was in New York City making the rounds promoting her new movie, 'Why Did I Get Married Too?' Here's a sneak peek of what Scott said prompted her to take on the hot topic.

Thank you King Blu. Thank you SO VERY MUCH. Some people just don't read, or understand what they read. In any case, thank you for remembering and thank God that there is a brother out there who is willing to utter the words that he wants US. I have NO problem whatsoever with love finding love whatever color it may be HOWEVER, it is a lie for ANYONE to say that so many black men don't go for the white redemption for reasons other than that they perceive them to be better than their black counterparts. For all of the ones out there who cannot read I didn't say ALL, I said SO MANY. I have walked into supermarkets and throughout my community and been given cold, ugly stares from black men with white women on their arms and beautifully cappacino colored children trailing behind. Their eyes say to any black woman within reach: you are not good enough. A true story right here: I even came across a brother that tossed his head at me and sneered as he opened the car door for his white, blonde princess. Now, apparently, black children are not as beautiful are they? Their value is not as great anymore because their hair comes out either too kinky or not blonde enough. It is this spirit which is the disgrace of the black man. It is actually refreshing to know that a black man sees a black woman as a treasure. I am a single mother who has been that way for 7 years. God has taught me to look at HIM through people. I have never dated anything other than a black man but at this point in my life, I have arrived at a place in which my heart has been opened to the RIGHT man NO MATTER WHAT HIS COLOR! I will say this though: GIVE ME MY ICE CREAM DARK, FUDGY, CHOCOLATE COCOA BROWN!!! I love my black brothers. They are BEAUTIFUL BEYOND DESCRIPTION, and if I chose a man of another race, I would NEVER see him as better than the chocolate kings! My last statement is this: how in this world would black men be so damn appealing to white women if their mothers and fathers weren't inky black with kinky hair and everyting else that comes with the package?

If Jill Scott knew that the guys wife wasn't Black based on how he talked about his family, why did she have to ask him what color his wife was and why does it matter? and is there a rule that say's if I make it that I have to date or marry Black women? Why does it matter who someone is with and it seems to me that Black women have entitlement issue about who a Black man is with instead of just looking for someone who's going to want to treat them right and love them right the whole nine.
