Last night, BET held its annual up-front presentation for advertisers at New York City's Nokia Theatre. There, the leading cable television network announced which new shows will be premiering later this year and what preexisting programs would be returning.

Coming off her Academy Award win for her star turn as an abusive mother in 'Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire,' funnywoman Mo'Nique has been picked up for a second season. The Baltimore native will continue to interview big-name guests, such as Chris Rock, Jill Scott, Queen Latifah and Patti LaBelle, on her late-night talk show, 'The Mo'Nique Show.'

Also returning is Antonia "Toya" Carter -- but as a soloist. The ex-wife of Grammy Award-winning incarcerated rap icon Lil' Wayne has appeared on BET for two seasons of the hit reality show 'Tiny and Toya' alongside T.I.'s long-time girlfriend, Tiny. Now, on her own show, Carter will give viewers more insight into her life as a mother and author and as she evolves out of the shadow of her first love.

After lots of fan letters and a notable Internet campaign, the former CW sitcom 'The Game,' which currently airs old episodes, has found a home on BET. BV Buzz was the first to report that a deal was close to being finalized, but last night, the network formally announced that 'Girlfriends' creator Mara Brock Akil's popular show will debut new episodes later this year.

Following the success of Randy Jackson's hit MTV show, 'America's Best Dance Crew,' MTV's 'Making the Band' firecracker choreographer Laurieann Gibson will get her own BET dance-competition series.

As previously reported here, Emmy Award-winning journalist and newscaster Ed Gordon will return to 'BET News,' where he got his start heading up a variety of news programs and specials.

Also of note, this fall, BET's new sister network, Centric, will air 'The Steve Harvey Project,' which will follow the popular comedian and New York Times best-selling author as he doles out dating advice and conducts celebrity interviews.

BET has been pulling in its biggest numbers lately. The network earned double-digit gains in all of its key demographics last year, according to Nielsen Media Research. The first quarter of 2010 was the number-one quarter performance among adults in the network's history, with an average of 524,000 viewers.
