More than a decade later, one of his rap collaborators is singing the same tune.
There's a new chapter in the ongoing saga that is the Nas and Kelis' divorce. The Queens, N.Y., native reportedly can't pay the child and spousal support ordered by the court.
As previously reported, L.A. County Superior Court ordered Nas to cough up more than $87,000 in back spousal and child support last month. The judge also ordered the 'Illmatic' lyricist to pay his former wife $10,000 a month in spousal support to stay current. At press time, it was not known how much Nas (legally known as Nasir Olu Bin Dara Jones) is required to pay in monthly child support.
In new legal documents obtained by TMZ, Nas' lawyer, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is claiming that the hood rich rap icon can't afford the $152, 031 monthly payments.
He said he makes "substantially less than that amount."
Kaplan represented Kevin Federline in his divorce from Britney Spears.
Last year, Kelis, who was seven months pregnant, filed for a divorce from Nas, citing irreconcilable differences. The 'Milkshake' singer hired high-powered attorney Laura Wasser, who has represented the likes of Spears, Angelina Jolie and Stevie Wonder, sought spousal support, child support and joint legal and physical custody of their unborn son, Knight.
The couple married in 2005 and reportedly separated in April 2009, just a few months after a very excited Nas told media outlets that they were expecting their first child.

It's a dayum shame that Kelis would even think that she needs 152K per month to live. Hmmmmmm, I guess Nas is really hating the favor of her milkshake right about now

I feel the spousal support awarded to Kelis is WAY too much. I don't believe that Nas has that much money to give her...as good as a rapper he might be, he's not rolling THAT deep. I want to know also, what happened to Kelis' "singing" career? Did she decide to give it up when she became Mrs. Nasir Jones?
He never should have married her, period. Looks like it wasn't worth it, not for him anyway. If anything he just should have agreed to pay child support if they were not going to make it as a couple. At this rate, he will end up with nothing and all his CD sales and performance monies will go to Kelis.

Damn shame she got his ass in a sling and Nas is the man in my book I absolutely love him and his lyrics. I understand gettin a brother to do what he has to do but did she really need all that cash. She's gonna make sure nobody else gets his money, he better get on with making a couple of CD's cause he gonna need just to pay her ass. For the first time I feel sorry for him right now.

People the judge goes by a person income. You can't walk in a court room and tell the judge how much you want.

Not necessarily. Bobby Brown comes to mind. That judge is still making him pay like he's making those "My Prerogative" dollars.

it's cheaper to keep her! and that's wat he should've done with that "ghetto hoodrat"...he knew wat he married from the get-go, a project chic with no ends her damn self. welp...Nas a** better make some hits and sell some CDs and do some concerts or sumtin...coz the "ghetto bird" wants hers!
