It's hot as hell in Las Vegas in August. And when Steve Harvey hits Sin City, it will be hotter.
His annual Hoodie Awards will take place Aug. 28 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Presented by Ford, the eighth annual awards ceremony will celebrate schools, businesses and local leaders from across the country for the excellence they've demonstrated in the categories of Best High School, Best High School Teacher, Best Church, Best Church Choir, Best Soul Food, Best Barbecue, Best Fried Chicken, Best Car Wash, Best Hair Salon, Best Nail Salon, Best Barber Shop and Best Community Leader.
"This is the greatest awards show on earth because, finally, we're taking the initiative to honor the common man," Harvey told BV Newswire about the Hoodie Awards. "You know, I've been receiving awards for years, and when I come to work and when I walk in, I get a round of applause. Well, [there are] people in our neighborhoods who have been working tirelessly for years and years without any recognition, without a round of applause. And it's time for them to get their shine on."
Among the bold-faced names already on board to join Harvey for this year's festivities are Grammy Award winner rapper-actor Common; Sherri Shepherd; nationally syndicated radio personality Stephen A. Smith; comedians David "Mr. Brown" Mann and George Wallace; actress-singer Tamela Mann; and actresses Loretta Devine, Holly Robinson Peete, Victoria Rowell, LisaRaye and Tasha Smith.
Established in 2001, the Hoodie Awards were created by Harvey and his business manager and producer Rushion McDonald to recognize the efforts and strides that the stars of our neighborhoods are making in the cities and towns in which they live.
"I believe that we're all created equal, and it's not fame or fortune that makes an ordinary person extraordinary. It's the things they do to help others and to uplift their communities that makes them special," Harvey said. "And I am grateful that we're able to bring all of these famous people together to give these very special individuals the recognition that they deserve," he adds.
The unique awards show is the bedrock of a weekend full of celebrity-filled events and fun, all for a great purpose.
Additional activities include the Hillshire Farm Freedom Friday Party, the 5 Hour Energy Midnight Comedy Jam hosted by Nephew Tommy, and Ford's VIP Celebrity After Party, as well as the Steve Harvey Charity Golf Tournament and the Charity Beach Party, benefiting the Steve Harvey Mentoring Weekend for Young Men.
'The Steve Harvey Morning Show' will also be broadcasting live from the Hoodie Awards Weekend on Aug. 27 and Aug. 30.

This will be my first time attending the Hoodie Awards Show and I'm so excited. I went the economical way, Luxor Hotel/Casino with main floor tickets and my cost including airfare $650.00. Each room reservation package came with 3days, 2nights stay, 2 Hoodie Awards tickets and 2 Friday night Freedom Party tickets (attire is white). My girlfriend and I split the cost of the hotel package $293.00 each. If you're interestd in attending, give me a shout out.

Juana,
My wife and I went last year and had a very good time. Cost was roughly $1600.00 which included round air fare flight and price for the Mandalay Bay hotel, freedom Friday Party, and Hoodies Awards. We turn this into a vacation. BTW did I mention she is still upset that we are not going back this year.
We are your average everyday couple no fancy cars or house. I am in the military.......

Please don't take this as a negative comment! It is not my intention to be negative or critical. I had heard of the Hoodie Awards in the past, but it was only today that I was curious enough to look further to see what they were about. "Hoodie" just didn't strike me as something serious that I wanted to know more about. I was wrong, and I'm glad that I did look further. I'm very impressed that someone of Steve's celebrity feels it is important (and I do too!) to recognize the everyday people in our lives who, through their efforts, achievements, and attitudes, make life better for all of us. However, I think that the name of the awards (Hoodie) does not easily describe nor do justice to the seriousness and importance of the works that it honors. Maybe Steve will consider changing the name to make it more reflective of his mission to honor these deserving people. I hope it will be televised so that I can see the show!
