'Fela!': Broadway's Hit Musical Headed to the Silver Screen

Earlier this year, producers of the critically acclaimed Broadway musical, 'Fela!' announced plans to debut the show for a limited run this November at London's world-renown National Theatre.

Adding to the musical's international debut, which chronicles the life of Afrobeat music pioneer and activist Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, audiences around the world will have the chance to experience Bill T. Jones' vision on the silver screen next January.

As part of the National's NT Live series, the groundbreaking initiative will broadcast live performances of the play in high definition and broadcast via satellite to 300 cinemas and performing arts centers in 22 countries.

Due to the overwhelming response of the 11-time Tony Award-nominated production's forthcoming international trek, set to begin in the fall of 2011, producers have enlisted Columbia Artist Management (CAMI) booker Margaret Selby to lend a helping hand.

She noted that she is "looking forward to working with local theater presenters both in the United States and abroad to use this broadcast as an innovative tool to excite their theatergoers to come and experience what Broadway audiences and critics have been raving about."

Preview performances of 'Fela!' in London will begin on Nov. 6, with opening night set for Nov.16.
