"People are being naïve when they say, 'Oh, it's great that she has this attitude.' This girl is in trouble and people want to deny that. We have an epidemic of obesity in the black community, especially among black women."
-- Radio personality/author Robin Quivers weighing in on Academy Award nominee Gabourey Sidibe's obesity. (Ebony)

While I agree with Robin about the health issue it doesn't give her and Howard Stern the right to make jokes at her expense. the conversation was about her not making it in Hollywood because she was heavy, not her health.Stop trying to sideskirt the issue here Robin. Gabby has to be the one to decide when she shpould do something about her weight, and I'm sure shw will. Robin was a big heifer for a long time, and she used some really unhealth ways to get her weight down instead of push aways. Give Gaby that same chance, sidekick!

I hate when people listen to others and make a conclusion. Howard stern never made fun of that girl. He said whe was going to end up like nell carter. He refered to Nell's I'm fat and happy attitude, and that is the lone contributor of her dying. He is the only one in hollywood who showed he cared about her. He definiently cares more about her than her own mother who said it's none of anybody buisness how fat she is. It's her own life and she is happy yada yada yada. In 20 years she is going to need dyalisis and maybe a new heart all because she is a fat ass who rather fight with Stern than go into a ring like she needs to and spar some of that fat off. And the only movies she is going to star in is other fat ass roles.

i do agree about the health issue, but it is her decision.so let her be the one to decide when and how she will handle it.why should you talk about her issues what did you use to look like, stop hateing. jealousy is showing.

Really, you have to question Robins' character anyway being as she is working with Howard Stern in the first place. He pushes the envelope too far and she gets a lot of laughs out of his idiotic behavior.
Guess what? The girl doesn't need anyone to tell her she's heavy. I don't think she wants her interviews to be about how much she needs to lose weight. Most people I have noticed in that public arena have tended to become more aware of their weight once they become a part of that "scene" anyway.
She'll handle it in her own time. It needs to be a safe alternative and not all this crazy stuff people are doing in hopes of taking off in two months what they put on over a number of years.

I agree with you 100%. Give her the chance to decide for her self.

Anyone in the public eye can open themselves up to scrutiny and jokes. Robin and Howard just happened to go the distance and create a circus spectacle out of the situation, which is what they do anyway.
No one should be terribly suprised by their behavior or secret laughter when it comes to over-weight people in particular. There's one thing we all can learn from this situation. Philippians 4:5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
This scripture applies to Robin, Howard, and Gabourey. Also me and you too!

I feel that obesity is a problem.Though among African Americans it is at an alarming higher rate. As a people, let's applaud the fact that WE are moving forward in every capacity.I think I speak for many when I say we are not ignoring the facts, we are happy for her success & accomplishments as actor. Let's pray for her success and health and NOT HUMILIATE her ,we've come A LONG WAY BABY.Everyone has some type issue and/ or problem. Hers is visible , whereas other are hidden. PRAYER STILL WORKS!!!!!!!!!

I agree, it is not right for anyone to single someone out to poke fun of, or bring them down so she is overweight, so are most of America, so am I and my attitude about life is beautiful I don't allow that to guide my life, my happiness come from within and been overweight doesn't keep me from feeling sexy and it shows so why should this young girl be stopped from feeling proud and sexy or happy this is about her achievement on the screen not her weight, tons of fat talented people out there. Now yes we do have a problem with obesity in America and yes we do need to encourage good health habits now that is very hard to do I teach this to my patients and yet its very difficult to practice it myself, I love to eat, yes I do but I am trying every day to make a change that's all we can ask that people recognize the need to make a change and take small steps each day to better living and better health practices.
