When she came to see her fellow Academy Award-winning pal Denzel Washington's triumphant performance in 'Fences' last month, buzz started to build that Halle Berry was eyeing a role on the Great White Way.
Well, it's true.
Sources close to the forthcoming Broadway production of 'The Mountaintop' have confirmed that the Revlon spokeswoman is attached to star in the play.
Katori Hall's Olivier Award-winning drama about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s final hours, is readying a debut in New York City this fall. And the 'Monster's Ball' beauty will make her debut, too.
Early word is that her role will be of a mysterious maid who visits Dr. King in a Memphis hotel room the night before his assassination.Tony winner Anika Noni Rose recently read the role at the William Inge Theatre Festival last spring. And Samuel L. Jackson read the role of King at a recent New York reading, which – according to our sources – made him a shoo-in for the Broadway turn.
Kenny Leon, the Tony-nominated director of 'Raisin in the Sun' and 'Fences,' is attached to helm.

My group from Washington DC are looking forward to come to New York to see the play "Mountain Top". I believe Halley Berry and Samuel L. Jackson will be brilliant in this play. My group had the honor to see "Fences" and it was a wonderful play. So watch out New York 52 of us will be on our way as soon as the final arrangements are made. I LOVE NEW YORK

Halle's a second tier film actress. And she knows this. To do stage, on Broadway, is a bit of a stretch for even Halle. But, so be it.
Let's just put it this way, she will not be NOMINATED for a Tony Award.

Why are people so mean and nasty on these blogs for no apparent reason? Don't they have anything better to do that to say something mean and nasty about someone who is at least doing something positive with their life?

redheels she is a second tier film actress that recieved a academy award. Remember the year that halle, denzel, and sydney p recived rewards? Not because of the talent but because of their race. Training day beats out a beautiful mind? What a farce! So do not be suprised if she is not only nominated but wins!

I think Halle Berry will be extremely successful on the Broadway stage. She'd be perfect reprising Elizabeth Taylor's role of Maggie in an all black remake of "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof!" Perhaps Denzel Washington could recreate the Paul Newman part. I'd fly to New York for that one!!! Just a thought....
