R&B singer Al Goodman (pictured, center, to the left) died July 26 at the Hackensack Medical Center in New Jersey due to heart failure during surgery on a tumor. He was 67. According to Goodman's daughter, Rhonda, the baritone crooner was "joking and laughing" prior to his surgery.
Goodman, who was responsible for the hits 'Love on a Two Way Street,' and 'Look at Me (I'm in Love),' joined the New Jersey based group, The Moments, in 1968 alongside Harry Ray and William Brown.
The trio found success on the charts throughout the 1970s before renaming themselves as Ray, Goodman and Brown. A year following the name change, Goodman & Co. struck their third #1 R&B hit 'Special Lady.'
Goodman's untimely death has not only affected family members, but also fellow musicians and friends such as Marshall Thompson of the Chi-Lites.
"There's mourning all over the world -- in England, in Germany and in Japan," the crooner told CNN yesterday. "We're all mourning for Al Goodman."
Goodman is survived by his wife of 34 years, Henrietta, five children and one grandson. Funeral arrangements are planned for Monday at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood, New Jersey.

I meet The Moments at Mr.& Mrs. Joe Robinsons Studio at 96? West ST. in Englewood. I have one 45rpm that was autographed by them. I'm very sad by his death.

Alllll Goodman! When I heard that you were going to that final resting place, I knew that you were going to accept it as a part of life. All though you have left many people on this earth in mourning, you have also left a great legacy that will continue on and perpetuate itself through many many more years. I will miss calling you and speaking to you and saying "Hey, Allll Goodman," and you would say "Raaaandy Forrest," youre next statement would be "How is Mrs. Forrest." Hearing you ask about my wife Janice everytime we spoke, gave me a certain sense that I was a part of your family. To be selfish, which I am at this moment, when I spoke with you, there was something in your voice that said "I like you Randy Forrest". That was many years ago, when I was living in New York and you guys were performing on Broadway and 96th st. I will never forget the many times that you and I would talk about a booking arangement and our conversation ended up being family talk. I knew at that time, many years ago, that you were one of God's special people. Go home my brother, where you belong with all of the great ones! In my heart and in my wife's heart YOU ARE THE GREATEST! YOU ARE OUR SPECIAL FRIEND! LOVE RANDY AND JANICE FORREST!

This is such a sad, sad occasion. I recently saw Ray, Goodman and Brown at the BackStage Lounge in College Park, GA and felt blessed to be in the company of such historial giants from the music industry. It was a once in a life time opportunity to see the group up close and personal. The show was dynamic and they blew me away with all their popular tunes. When you can experience such close proximity with stars of this caliber you sort of take it personal when something like this happens because you feel like you know them personally. That's how they made you feel. During the show Al continually talked about his family. You could feel the LOVE. You know you don't foresee these events happening so it just goes to show you never know when your time has expired. Heart felt sympathy to the Goodman family as it is such a great loss to us all including the Moments family. Best Wishes....

I was listening to the radio playing some Moments hit and I didn't know he had passed away. Wow what a sad loss. They were one of my favorite groups growing up in my teens. My condolences to the family.
