After performing alongside former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice last week during a charity event at Philadelphia's Mann Music Center, Aretha Franklin canceled two upcoming shows in Brooklyn due to a recent rib injury.

The Queen of Soul made the abrupt decision Aug. 3, stating doctor's wishes to postpone her summer concert series in support of medical exams and a full recovery.

She reportedly broke ribs and has abdominal pain from a fall which occurred on Sunday.

Her longtime spokeswoman Gwendolyn Quinn said that there was no further information available about the cause.

Franklin's management company, William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, was working on rescheduling the singer's debut in Brooklyn, tentatively set for the end of this month.

"I was very much looking forward to being in Brooklyn and having a foot-long hot dog at Coney Island," the 20-time Grammy Award winner said. "Hopefully, I will get it before the end of August."In addition to canceling the two Brooklyn dates, which were scheduled to take place at Wingate Field on Aug. 9 and Asser Levy Park on Aug. 12, Franklin, 68, will also miss Congressman Rangel's 80th birthday party Aug. 11.

She added that she "will really miss that nice slice of cake from Congressman Charlie Rangel's birthday party and singing happy birthday to him."
