Following weeks of silence surrounding his alleged affair with season three 'American Idol' winner, Fantasia Barrino, Antwaun Cook finally broke his silence and came to the defense of the 26-year-old distressed singer, who was hospitalized after reportedly attempting to commit suicide.The former real estate agent released a statement through his lawyer, Nicole Sodoma, blaming himself and his estranged wife, Paula Cook, as the reason for his divorce and not Barrino.
"Antwaun would be remiss not to address the criticism and judgment he has received," the statement read. "He knew Fantasia Barrino but the failure of his marriage can in no way be blamed on anyone except the two people that were a part of the union – Paula and Antwaun. [Paula and Antwaun] expected their marriage to stand the test of time."
Although court documents reveal that the couple separated in June 2010, Cook's account states the couple agreed to call it quits last year.
"Unfortunately, like many marriages, it did not turn out as planned," it continued. "In late summer 2009, after years of discussion, the parties separated with the intention of no longer being married."
Interesting.
As for Fantasia, the eight-time Grammy Award nominee is "motivated" to resume her career, following the apparent suicide attempt, with a string of media appearances in support of her Aug. 24 album, 'Back to Me' and the second season of her hit VH1 reality series, 'Fantasia for Real,' set to premiere Sept. 19

I bet this man is feeling real bad, a shamed, and YES HE IS THE BLAME for seeing Fantasia while he was STILL MARRIED, (I don't give a damn if him and his wife were separated for 1 year, THEY ARE STILL MARRIED). He is also feeling guilty for the pain that he has caused to Fantasha, Soon-to be EX, and Fantashia's attempted suicide! This man has the NERVE to come out and speak now? This man is under a lot of pressure, his image is diminishing and the criticism of his actions is getting worse, he is loosing everything, and is LOOSING HIS DAMN MIND! Cook should have known better to get involved while still married? Fantashia should have known better too. She is not being a good role model for her daughter and is disrespecting herself, her daughter, and family. I pray for a good recovery for her. I pray that she gets all the help she needs, to FOCUS more on her daughter, to not EVER be involved with a married man again, and to be and live right. I just think she should stay low, and STAY AWAY from the media, STAY AWAY from reading about herself on blogs,singing, touring, and doing reality shows, right now. That will be the best thing for her to do to help her to get through. God will help anybody and will get you through ANY MESS. God will always be by your side at all times. TIMES! A man or woman is not worth ending your LIFE!
It's getting to HOT for Cook and he wants to come to Fantashia's rescue now. Where was he when this happened to Fantashia? This man wants for the media to get off his AZZ to make himself look GOOD! This man doesn't love her! If he loved her so much, he would have waited until the divorce was FINAL? He is feeling mighty GUILTY right about now and this will NEVER GO AWAY! Just like the IRRELEVANT COMMENTS ^ that will NEVER GO AWAY! Again, this is not the "Classified Ads"!

"Just started getting divorced"? A personal note: I have 7 aunts’ and uncles, all black, all educated and all were or are married to black people. Together there are 6 divorces (aunt married and divorced twice), 1 death departed and 1 who is still married. I am 38. They are quite a bit older. Just started getting divorced should not be the question; when did destroying black families become so passé, popular and something to be condoned? That should be the question.

What up with that statement . He see's dollar signs & fame with Fantasia .So he is trying to make fantasia look good to save her wealth .If Paula has a tape & the way she addressed the wife .She can't be saved . Mr Cook in your Vows you said for better , or worse, in sickness, & in health richer , or poor till death do we part .So you lied .Ask your self a question are you willing to leave your 2 sons for a peice of tail .Shame on you , your children are youe own flesh / blood they did not asked to be born . Your obligations are with your family. Sorry to say Black men have a thing of leaving their children , Go help the mistress take care of her children. What a joke stay with you family your sons need you . On the other note .If u make a life with that UUUggggllllyyy mistress I hope Paula gets every dime I mean every dime that you and fantasia earn .I will be waiting for the court date. I have to agree with you stare k. I think he saw dollar signs all along with the relationship with Fantashia and he sat back and asked okay, what chance does my wife have to win this case and how much money will she get, will that leave fantashia with money and the ability to come back with her fans. Someone probably advised him, your wife won't win, fantashia has more money and she can help you become a celeberty. Your best bet is to stay with Fantasia and he jumped on the best band wagon. Also, did you see how much these women look alike?

Please astop falling into that trap that other folk have set for you. Men of all colors and races leave there wives and children, and fail to pay child support. Stop painting tags on our black men as if they are the only ones committing certain acts. When you generalize that way you place a sterotype on our black men. Yes, more than we would like to know about do fail to step up to the plate, but stop thinking that its only a black thing.

I agree that COOK is definately on the Fantasia money train. He was working at T-Mobile when they met - come on now....He looks like he s suave and munipulative. He's going to ride that gravy train til the wheels fall off- Fantasia is going to marry him and he's going to take her down....sad but I see the writing on the wall.

Book Marvin? I truly believe that Mr and Mrs Cook cooked this whole thing up from the start. There is no way in hell that a woman is going to allow her man to be seen with another numerous of times before putting her foot down unless the plan was to sue later. There's also no way a man who knows that he is still with his wife would allow himself to be seen in public with another woman. This was a plan to suck poor Fantastia out of her millions. I hope both Cooks get exactly what they deserve.
