The spinoff series of 'Army Wives' that had actress Gabrielle Union in one of the lead roles has been rejected by Lifetime TV, reports Deadline.com.
The site states that the spinoff, starring Brigid Brannagh and Union as Atlanta detectives, got a lot of attention recently following its story about 'Wives' executive producer Mark Gordon's use of racial slur during the backdoor pilot's table read.
In an episode that aired recently, 'Wives' regular Pamela Moran (played by Brannagh) returns to her career as a police officer and is promoted to a detective with the Atlanta Police Department. Union was playing her partner, Detective Gina Holt.

Union was last seen in a supportive role on ABC's recently canceled series, 'FlashForward.' The Nebraska native also appeared the short-lived series 'Life,' 'Night Stalker' and 'City of Angels.'

Good. That episode was beyond laughable.Next up to disappear? Hopefully, Army Wives. It has become a soap opera without the requisite trashiness. One of the most painful hours in Sunday night's lineup to watch.I am an Air Force and seek ing someone .I need a woman who can love me back ...I also uploaded my hot photos on kissmilitar y.c omunder the name of IOIO555..It's the largest and best club for seek ing Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Police Force, and the admirers of those who wear the uniform.I just hope you don't mind me being a soldier ...Please Check it out!I'm serious

I miss 'City of Angels'....an all black medical staff at a hospital...it was a beautiful thang.

What a racist thing to say. If a white person had praised a show because it had an all white cast Al Sharpton would be all over the news with announcing a law suit. That is what's wrong with this country...a complete double standard.

Kathy, I understand your feelings on this but one of the main reasons people celebrate anything positive with all black anything is because there is so much negativity in the black community. It's not a matter of extolling black above any other but rather a way to counter-balance all of the negative images of blacks reflected in both the media and real life. The same goes for Latinos and any other group of people who are disenfranchised. In spite of having a half black president, blacks still have a higher percentage of people in jail, higher percentage of children born to unmarried parents, lower test scores, etc. By seeing an all black cast of doctors and people in the medical profession, it gives younger (and older) black people hope that there are alternatives. So it's not coming from a racist point of view at all but rather one of pride in a place where blacks have done and are doing some things that many people would like to avoid. AND it helps counter the idea that blacks are only athletes and entertainers (although, ironically, it takes a cast of black entertainers to show that blacks aren't just entertainers, lol!!)

For SBrown: I agree with your comment about the negativity reflected toward Black people by "other races". I am a retired Black female peace officer, grandmother, etc. But anywhere I go, you see white people in stores letting there hooligans run wild, until they see a Black person, male or female. Then it's Jane, Jimmy, etc., get over here. It's like we don't have children.
I totally disagree with the comment about more Blacks in jail. I don't know what state you live in but in California, statistics reflect that in northern California there are twice as many white men locked up than Black men. In southern California, there are four times as many Hispanic men locked up than Blacks. Do the statistics, I did and worked in the California prison system for 20 years.

Dawn, thank you for your information! Always good to get first hand wisdom from someone in the system. My comment was about percentages not quantities. So when you look at the percentage of blacks in the population to the percentage of blacks in jail, I think it's higher.

I disagree about this being a racist comment. You just don't see a lot of African American based shows on television anymore. It provides a change and something more relatable for audiences.
On a different note, I love Gabriel Union! I think the spinoff would have been a great project and would have had a good following.

I think when you can make comments like that without it leading to a MAJOR discussion then racism will no longer be a problem, only people wont let it die.
There is nothing wrong with having pride in one's race...as long as it's equal. I dont know about you but I think my debt is paid. Know how I know that? Because I see people of different races that have better jobs than I do. I am not bitter, it's been my choice to be a housewife for many years. I also see people of different races that live in slums...I'd say I am somewhere in the middle. I also see WHITE people that have better than me, worse than me, richer than me and poorer than me. I now see an african american in the oval office. I am not repressing anyone I am not profiling anyone, I am simply one white woman striving to exist in the world made up of all different races, religions and cultures.
When more people can merely start existing and striving in what they have, or for more possibly, becoming or remaining stand-up individuals...then prejudice will no longer be an issue.
As long as people are being made to feel like they "owe" others something for being whatever race that they are...then racism will never go away.
