How can you continue to dazzle masses on Broadway with a critically-acclaimed show for almost a year? Well, if you are a savvy theater producer, you bring in a Grammy Award winning diva to the cast. On Sept. 14, 'Fela!' producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith welcomed the one and only Patti LaBelle for her official first night performance in the Tony Award winning musical tour-de-force, currently playing at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre in New York City. Backstage, The Smiths chatted up the 'New Attitude' diva about her return to The Great White Way. LaBelle, who rocked the rafters of the jam-packed house, is on deck to portray Nigerian political pioneer Funmilayo Ransome Kuti through the top of next year.
