It appears that his recent letdowns (being determined an ineligible candidate for Haiti's presidential election and subsequently being dropped from the ballot) are finally taking a toll on his health.
As previously reported, the former Fugees front man was criticized by Hollywood heavyweight Sean Penn and his former band mate Pras, who both said Clef didn't have the political credentials to pursue such a high-profile gig.
Now comes news that the multiple Grammy Award winner has been hospitalized for "stress and fatigue" at an undisclosed location.
According to his rep, Marian Salzman, Jean has been busy recording and traveling around Europe, Asia and Africa and suffered through a "grueling eight weeks."
Even with that medical ordeal, the 37-year-old musician, who resides in New Jersey, doesn't seem to be slowing down.
Salzman said he "plans to take easy," that is until the release of his new album later this year.
The news leaves some wondering whether this incident is a publicity stunt and if, like Fantasia's quick return from her suicide attempt, Clef is returning to the spotlight too soon.
There is no word on his condition, but his rep said he will be released this week.

I think Wyclef needs a rest ... both because of the campaign and his music career. I don't think most people outside of the music industry realize just how stressful it can get for a touring musician: the long hours on the road, practice, dealing with the public, on stage giving it your all, etc. Think about it from the performer's view and I think you'll understand a bit better why the man is hiding out and resting.
