I saw the movie last night. There was great acting. This is a movie that showed the dark side of black men. I wished it showed some of the good things black men do. I sure would not buy this movie. If like to hate on black men go see this movie.

Um, did you not pay attention to the loving, supportive, wonderful character that Hill Harper played? Methinks that maybe this film hit a little too close to home, eh? Why is there this expectation that ALL the men in black films have to be saints? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there ARE men like this all over our community! We do not have to keep sweeping it under the rug. And furthermore, Tyler was staying true to the original play. If you had been fortunate enough to have seen it back in the '70's (I did), then you would know this!!!!!!!

Tyler Perry must have raked in some huge 'bonus' bucks from Lionsgate by kowtowing to their "need" to broadbrush Black males with such much malarkay in this 2 hour snooze fest....

I didn't really care for this movie. The dialogue was too long and Kimberley's last scene was also too long. The movie was depressing and there were few happy scenes. Phyllicia Rashad acted like some lonely ass lesbian; while Whoopi's character seemed pointless.
If I had to pick one good performance, let's say two - it'd be Janet Jackson and Macy as that back room abortionist. It's no one that'd be on my list to see again. I'd rather see Secretariat.

...someone that feels the way I do about this movie. I just don't see what was so GOOOOOOOD bout it. Actors are actors, they played their roles. We have all seen those roles time and time again on the big screen. WHATS NEW??? Are we only saying its good to give TP his support, or because its a black film? Give us some more movies like "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"....at least that would be refreshing for a change.
