The hit NBC sitcom '30 Rock' may have to go without one of its stars.
Comedian Tracy Morgan is currently recovering from a kidney transplant, the Associated Press reports.
His publicist released a statement confirming that he had the surgery earlier this month and is doing well and taking "much needed time" to recover.
Morgan was diagnosed with diabetes in 1996 and it took running a 104-degree fever, while on the set of '30 Rock,' for the Queens native to finally comply with his doctor's orders to take medication and change his diet.
His health condition has even been written into the '30 Rock' story line.
After the holidays, the 42 year-old is expected to return to filming the New York-based show to resume his character Tracy Jordan, a caricature of himself.
In 2009, the former 'Saturday Night Live' cast member was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.
Another '30 Rock' cast member, Grizz Chapman, who has a recurring role as Grizz Griswold, also received a new kidney in July of 2010.
There's no word on whether Morgan's surgery would affect production of '30 Rock.'

Are you kidding me? They gave a perfectly good kidney to an acoholic/drug abuser? What a waste! There are so many people hooked to dialysis machines waiting for a kidney that have not polluted their bodies with alcohol & drugs

blc... maybe you are too young to know or remember this one about baseball great Mickey Mantle.
Earlier in 1994 Mantle learned that his years of heavy drinking had left him with hepatitis (a swelling of the liver) and liver cancer. Although he received a liver transplant in June 1995, the cancer had spread to other organs, and Mantle died on August 13.
DO YOU OBJECT TO THAT????

I'm happy for him. I guess when you have money, it certainly does talk.
One of my dearest girlfriend is on dialysis and waiting for a kidney.
She's not rich like he is, I just pray she gets one soon.
But still, I'm glad he's okay.

Yes...I do object to Mickey Mantel receiving a kidney. ANYONE...famous or just the average joe, should not receive an organ transplant if they have damaged their body through drugs & alcohol. I'm sorry...there are just too many other deserving organ candidates out there to WASTE a life giving oragn. I am a RN for 30 yrs & I see people chained to dialysis machines for life through no fault of their own.
