When it comes to giving back to the next generation, Steve Harvey's name remains in the thick of celebrities who give back to their community. Harvey's relentless work ethic in nurturing community change and youth mentoring has led the 'Original Kings of Comedy' star to co-host the 2nd annual Steve Harvey Foundation Gala on April 4 at New York City's Cipriani Wall Street.
The best-selling author, alongside 'The View's Sherri Shepherd, will honor Tyler Perry, Ford Motor Company CEO Alan Mulally, comedian Chris Rock and his wife, philanthropist Malaak Rock with the Steve Harvey Foundation's Helping Hand Award for their commitment to educating and mentoring children within their respective communities.
Grammy Award-winning saxaphonist David Sanborn will be the evening's featured entertainment.
"It's often hard to recognize an opportunity without knowing your dream first, and these four individuals have made a great impact on communities large and small, courageously and selflessly sharing their dreams and their achievements," Harvey said.

"Their leadership continues to empower and inspire us as well as future generations, on creating your own opportunities and blazing a trail for others," he continued.
"Sherri Shepherd has also served as an inspiration to so many, and bringing our humor together as cohosts will surely be a must-see evening that brings out the best comedy from both of us!"
Previous recipients of the Steve Harvey Foundation's Helping Hand Award include Denzel Washington, Harlem Children's Zone Geoffrey Canada and Pam El of State Farm Insurance.
Although Harvey is recognizing individuals for their support for community change, the multifaceted media maverick also plays a vital role in instilling principles of manhood amongst teenage boys.
Last month, Harvey held a mentoring weekend at the University of Southern California for 100 young men in the Los Angeles area, which is where the radio personality launched his career.
"This is where it all really started for me in radio," he explained to BlackVoices.com. "Remembering our base and recognizing the need for mentoring worldwide, and especially in this special weekend in L.A., we extend the brand of mentoring to single mothers."
"We extend our helping hand by leaving the young men with a snapshot of manhood that they previously may not have had."
The dynamic program was created by Harvey to bring guidance to young men who are without fathers in their lives, empowering them with the principles of manhood and dream building.

My son has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Language Impairment. He has had to overcome many obstacles in his learning. I was told that he would be mentally challenged and never read. I refuse to believe that because I believe in my son and his capabilities. As he began to develop some of his learning skills and apply them, I contacted the Friends of Literacy here in Knoxville,TN. To my surprise, my son was not able to be in their program because it is designed for adults who didn't have a program like Parents of Literacy while they were younger. We thank Friends of Literacy for encouraging us to build a relationship with their program. Between the 2 of us, we are helping everyone learn to read .
I was given your information from a wonderful woman named Sophia from the Central Office Staff. Please visit our website: www.parentsofliteracy.yolasite.com
Our Fundraiser will be May 21, 2011 4-7pm...We will bringing awareness to our program and registration for Volunteers. We will encourage reading with entertainment. I thank the Friends of Literacy for their support because if the adults they help currently would have had this kind of program , they would already know how to read. When the world said he couldn't God said he can and go out and make a difference. So here I am. I would not give up on him and I will give up on the kids in our communities and I need your help. Thank you so much for your time .Let's help our youth 7 to 17 learn to read.Plese visit our website at: www.parentsofliteracy.yolasite.com
It is about helping others ....Thank you and we need your support!
