Celebrities flock to comedienne Chelsea Handler's late night talk show 'Chelsea Lately' to promote their latest projects and crack a few jokes. But sometimes the jokes hit a little too close to home. The leading lady of the upcoming film 'Jumping the Broom' Paula Patton sat down with Handler and talked about her career and family including husband Robin Thicke. But when the subject of her blonde haired blue eyed son Julian came up, it seemed like Handler hit a nerve.
"He's blond, he has blue eyes. It's crazy. Everybody's like, did you have anything to do with this? They think we like adopted a Russian child...and everyday I'm like he's gonna get blacker, no look," Patton said.
She was all smiles chatting with Handler, but it's a bit sad that she's mistaken for her son's nanny, as Handler was quick to point out.
What's so comical and cute about someone confusing a famous actress with the help? Patton isn't the only mother to have experienced this case of mistaken identity. Several publications like 'Essence,' 'The New York Times' and NPR have reported on the issue.
Patton went on to explain that "blackness takes time" and "a tan is coming in, the hair's curlier, I'm telling you."

I agree Pinky! The only person who’s struggling with Paula son's appearance is the author of this article, and that's Yannique Benitez. Give me a break.
This article is so f*@king stupid, it's ridiculous! Must be a slow celebrity news day.

It is such a shame that others can’t be more sympathetic or show some concern and compassion.
Until you have walked in her shoes you don’t know what kind of racism that she has experienced (i.e., “you are not black enough….”). Why do people come on her to attack and put other down… shame on them.

Bull Spit!!! Her only sadness about a white baby is that people mistake her for the nanny and not the mommy. Please! She has a mirror. She knows her hair and skin tone makes her look almost completely white.
She sure made sure to get with a white man. And then to procreate with a man whiter than white and expect a tanned child? She knew that their was a 90% chance her child would be as white as a Russin baby.

This is what she said:
"He's blond, he has blue eyes. It's crazy. Everybody's like, did you have anything to do with this? They think we like adopted a Russian child...and everyday I'm like he's gonna get blacker, no look," Patton said.
Now, if she is so damn concern, in which I think she is, she should have just got with Black dude, problem solved.
Not comparing her to Halle, because Paula have way more sense than crazy azz Halle, but when these high yella women get with white dudes, thats damn near, what the baby will be.
So, don't no one tell me, my comment was stupid, because, what I said was truth.

It does not matter if her child gets daker or not! He is adorable no matter what! I love both Paula and her husband and I wish them nothing but the best! We are living in different times now and I don't expect the child will have any problems based on his skin color! Besides that, her husband knew she was a black woman when he married her! What would have been said if the child was the same color as Paula? Would Robert Thick be thought of as "THE HELP" when he is out with the baby? I think we are reading way to much into this!

Only dumbazz lightskinned unnatractive BLACK people want to say that race doesn't matter, because they've been brainraped by whites who KNOW their "majority" is dwindling. There's a BLACK or LATINO child in EVERY white household(even the Bush's)They'd like to take their rule back, but Barack,Paula,Halle and most other biracials want to choose their own heritage. As far as I'm concerned, they chose correctly, and only a fool would look at them and say they're white. Our BLACK and LATINO ethnicity has become the new majority, and with that comes opportunities.

I can feel her pain. I am biracial, half latina, half black and my husband is white. When our daughter was born she came out white, and she stayed this way until she was about 2, now her skin tone is darkening up and I'm happy about it. I don't want a white child, sorry I mean to sound racist, but I like brown skin or tan at least.

I'm wondering if the writer of this article watched the same video clip. Chelsea didn't call her THE HELP. She said when people don't look like their child, they're often mistaken for the nanny.
And the title of the article is very misleading. When does she say she's "struggling" with her child's white appearance?
I'm really sick of how black people (and yes I am black) overreact and blow every single little thing out of proportion. Handler did not hit any nerve with her comment.
And as far as Paula being black, how "black" (in color) do you have to be to be considered black? How "black" do you have to be for your experience as a black person in America to count? I am QUITE sure she has faced racism in Hollywood. The same way Dorothy Dandridge and Lena Horne did! I watched Oprah's show about the Freedom Riders yesterday & Diane Nash could have almost passed for white, yet she risked her life just as other darker skinned blacks (and whites). Should her efforts & experiences be negated because she is not 'black enough'? People kill me.
