For anyone who thinks that Rihanna's "Man Down" music video is over-the-top and simply out to grab headlines, Gabrielle Union has a message for you: It's not. In fact, tragically, it's very true to life.
After being asked by a fan about her response to the controversial clip, the actress opened up about her own abusive past, and revealed a heartbreaking parallel between the video's story and her own: namely, that she, too, once tried to shoot the man who raped her.
In particular, hers.
The topic came up last week, when Union was soliciting ideas from her followers on how to better combat violence against women and kids. When a fan asked her what she thought of the Rihanna video, the 38-year-old star responded with unexpected honesty and candor.
"I haven't seen it yet," she tweeted. "I'll let everyone know my thoughts on it when I do."
A few days later, she had.
"Saw 'Man Down' by @rihanna. Every victim/survivor of rape is unique, including how they THINK they'd like justice 2 be handed out," she tweeted.
"During my rape I tried 2 shoot my rapist, bt I missed. Over the yrs I realized tht killin my rapist would've added insult 2 injury. The DESIRE 2 kill someone whose abused/raped u is understandable, bt unless its self defense n the moment 2 save ur life, just ADDS 2 ur troubles #mandown."

Here you go again, being stupid. If you continue to read, you will see that I was 12 years old when I was attacked by a grown ass man. My begging and pleading isn't how I got away but screaming & fighting did. I was child. You were a grown ass woman. Don't YOU feel bad?
And regarding RiRi & Chris, I was unaware that you were witness to their entire relationship, including that fateful day she got the sh*t beat out of her by a MAN. And by the way, if no one knew you were almost raped, then how in the HELL do you know she wasn't almost raped?
Does EVERY song written and sang have to be an autobiography? This video IS telling millions of women story. The way some handled it is different but the pain and anger to hurt the abuser, is universal! You trully are a silly, short sighted person.
Why are you even following what Rhianna is doing if you are so Holy Ghost Filled, lil' Ms. Preachy? She said she was a rock star; she said it was not her job to raise YOUR kids right; it is rumored she dabbles satanism.
Are you such poor role model that you have to turn to entertainers? POSITIVE MESSAGES, start at home. Why don't you try that?

So what is Rhianna trying to say. That she should have shot and killed Chris Brown,LOL. People talk and dont know what the H E double hockey sticks they are talking about. Facts are facts Rhianna is a media HOE. People forget that the fight was going both ways. She beat on him just as much if not more. But as the story goes when a woman beats on a man its nothing to talk about he deserved it. But when a man beats a woman its the end of the world. I'm not saying its the thing to do but right is right wrong is wrong. When this all started it was about how they were beating on each other. Then all of a sudden its all about him beating her. The fact of the matter is he was beating her she was beating him and from what was said most of the time she started it. Chris Brown has moved on trying to save what little is left of his career. and this MF! keep bringing up yesterdays news. Dont get me wrong if he beat her and that was the end of the story then hey i would be like that MF a B A N1XX@ but that shiX went both way. You sound stupid. I am so interested in this issue because at age 12 I was almost raped by a grown ass man and 20 years later I can STILL remember that sh*t like it was yesterday. The fear of what was actually happening to me, the way I had to fight back, still fresh in mind to this day when something like this issue is brought up. You don't know shiznit.
And HISTORY does not dictate that men were abusive to women because women were abusive. Some women yes; most men, HELL YES. We were thought of as property ALL throughout history and if we got out of line or refused his advances, there were harsh penalties, all because he was strong enough to take what he wanted.
Just on the news last night a women ran from her home and was stabbed 3 times by her 10 year old daughters father and died. What in the hell could she have done to deserve that? Family said she did nothing. Wanting to leave is not grounds for murder. But, retaliating an attack, you betcha.
Boys/men know how hard to slap box with each other to why in the hell did Chris pummel her when she was no no way f*cking him up like that.

It is easy to knock Gabrielle's comment when you stand off in a distance looking in on the situation. Unless and until you walk in her shoes and/or the shoes of other victims you have no idea what you would do. It is not unreasonable to want to kill your abuser and I do speak from experience. I had gun in hand at the temple of my abuser but thank God I was able to see I was only creating more problems for myself and my family. Yes, it can happen to you. and until it does you have no idea how you would feel or what you would do.

I don't respect anything coming from Gabrielle Union after her dating Dwayne Wade a married man at the time and then breaking up his and his wife's home. I'm sorry to even see her in the upcoming movie of Tyler Perry; which I haven't missed a movie but will miss this one because she's starring in it. She needs to sat down, and keep her mouth shut!

It's just a music video, people. And so few people watch music videos these days anyway (does MTV even show them anymore?) that it's the overreaction that's giving the thing the publicity. The double-standard I'm seeing is Rhianna makes a music video and everyone is up in arms. Had she instead made a movie about it - a female "Death Wish", if you will - she'd probably be acclaimed for it and generate Oscar buzz.

Gabby along with half of Hollywood, including the men have a rape story to tell. It appears to be a prerequistion in Hollywood. Ri can skip to the bank daily and deposit a mill, but she is still a skank.
