From the New York Times:
At home here on Saturday afternoon, Paul Telegdy, who heads up reality programming for NBC, directed his Web browser to a real-time search engine of Twitter messages and checked in on 'The Voice,' the Tuesday night singing competition that is his network's strongest new entry in several years.
There were dozens of Twitter messages each minute from viewers about 'The Voice.' "Hey, what's going on?" he wondered. Then he remembered: the E! channel, an NBC Universal sibling, was running a marathon of the season to date.
"I was sort of overwhelmed by how much interactivity there was," Mr. Telegdy said the next day, again refreshing the search engine. ("You have to be careful you don't check every five seconds," he added.)
Helped along by online chitchat, cable marathons and a cast of four celebrity coaches, "The Voice" is in the midst of a crescendo, as this Tuesday's show starts a climactic period of live broadcasts and live rejections of contestants. The show, which had its premiere at the end of April, is averaging about 12.9 million viewers, and, more important for NBC, about 7.35 million of them are between the ages of 18 to 49, making it the No. 1 new series of the television season with that group.

I feel sorry for a lot of the unknown talent on these shows because now its about using these kids, adults etc to restart the careers of has beens or more PR for current stars trying to sell music. It's sad when the talent can out sing the judges (and most of Billboard females, haha) but you wouldn't know that the way the judges are overhyped now! Frenchie give it up and go get a real job!!!
Don't give me that "I like my overweight body" because as we see all the Idol black women who gave that speech realized they have to compete with half naked Rhianna/Beyonce which the black media loves and lost weight!! Reality set in quickly. Even the biggest pimp of fat black women Monique "Skinny women are evil" lost weight. I said for year Monique was jealous of HEALTHIER SKINNIER women! hahaha

A lot of these people wouldn't make it through the audition of American Idol. And the older ones as stated in the post before mine, go get a real job. It's never going to happen. I wish these kids would think of their future going to college and education instead of trying to be the next big star. But we have shows like this to get their hopes up. It's ok to be a regular person you know.

Wow, to tell the older people to go get a real job because their dream would never happen is a very nasty thing to say to someone. You are a dream crusher. Who are you to tell these people to give up their dreams. I'm only 27 years old, but if a 50 year old hasn't fulfilled their dreams, I want them to keep that dream alive and work as hard as they can to succeed. Good luck you too in whatever it is that you want to do.
By the way, my dream is my calling and I am fortunate enough to know what that is, and trust me, I will fulfill my calling

I'm not a dream crusher. I found out I could write songs when I was 24 with a friend that was trying to sing. I also had a todler at the time. I'm 33 now and people ask me why didn't I chase my dream. I don't have time to dream when I have a mouth to feed and bills to pay. Maybe if I found my talent at an early age I would have tried to go after it but I was busy working and being a mom. Wouldn't give my time with my kid up for anything.
Im saying for those like Frenchie (however you spell her name) tried many times and it's not working so go be a normal chick and have a check every week. And the kids need to look at other options rather than trying to be a rapper, play ball or sing for a living. If it's not in the cards for them then oh well

@luvnfears: Frenchie has had a very busy singing career since American Idol. She may not have had the record deals, and all the video's like other star's but she has worked in the music industry non-stop, on Broadway, and I believe as a back up singer(which by the way pays very well; ask Faith Evans or Kelly Price). I think that maybe her dream is to put out an album, which I believe "The Voice" may be able to help her with. Your never to old to dream or accomplish an goal. Maybe you should start writing songs again, who knows you might have that next big hit out there! God knows we could use some better songs on the radio.
