From IndieGoGo:
'The Street' is an award winning novel by Ann Petry and the first book by an African American woman to sell over 1 million copies. The novel is required reading for high school and college students across the country.
'The Street' is an important part of American literature and a story that highlights the American experience through the narrative of a committed, loving, aspiring mother and the residents of Harlem during WWII.
We have made the commitment to produce a feature film based on the novel and we cannot continue all of the progress that we have made on the project up to this point without continued support. We have set a goal to raise $3,500 to cover pre-production expenses. These funds are essential in making sure that we are able to begin the process of securing the best talent, locations and crew available in order to ensure that the film is successful.

Why just 3,500 if I may ask? Thats a drop in the bucket for a film production.

If these producers were smart, they would head over to Oprah's network and pitch it.

I was thiking the same thing... $3,500 seems impossibly low for production staffing and needs. I have worked with many film crews and know a b it about the industry. I would think that one person could take this on.

I hate to say it, but it sounds a bit fishy doesn't it?

I agree with the comment about pitching to Oprah at OWN. I haven't been watching the channel because I don't like the reality shows that are on there, but I would definitely watch this film!!

If they're playing on the level of a Bill Duke, then that money should be there and then some. Plus, this book is already popular. Something definitely doesn't sound right here. You can name drop all day, but do you have the muscle and power to back it up.

The $3500 doesn't seem "right." A script cwn't be written for that amount, much less cover meetings, or even simple office expenses like supplies, telephone calls or postage. If the basic pre-production costs of $3500 aren't available, how can they raise the millions needed to produce a film. Even if they are going bare-budget, with lots of volunteers and "donated" time from actors, and film crews, a movie can't be made for less than a few hundred thousand bucks. Remember two important words in "the biz" -- unions and scale. Explain that to me and I'll be happy to donate what I can.

There's been talk of making the novel "The Street" into a movie for years. Producers wanted Dorothy Dandridge to play the role of Lutie Johnson the tragic figure at the center of the novel so that tell you how long this novel has been around waiting to be made into a movie.

Why not run this by Tyler. Also run it by Oprah, she will definitely vet true intentions. This sounds like passing the hat or raising money for a rent party.Sounds also like a good story, but I personally wouldn't give money to just anybody posting.
