You have got to be kidding me. Porgy and Bess? "I've got plenty of nothing and nothing's plenty for me", Porgy and Bess? Rich people still enjoy watching African American performers shucking and a jiving on stage like in the days of old.

Of course they do ! Some Whites believe that's all we're good for is minstrel shows ! Todays pro athletes are viewed in much similar fashion ! Check out pro games and you can literally count the amount of Blacks in attendance versus Whites !

I LOVE Porgy and Bess, the music is divine (I love Gershwins work). Audra is an amazing singer and I will be seeing this performance.
There is a reason that it has lasted almost 100 years. I can understand why people have a problem with the language, but once again it was a play that took place in the south in 1930, it is a snapshot of a certain place and time. May I also say that I am not rich,( you can get tickets at the Met here in NY for around $30),so I was abele to treat some kids who had never seen Opera to see this show, they did not see it as shucking and jiving, they loved the story and were enthralled by the music. I wanted to show them that we can do and sing anything we can do R&B/rap/ and even play Carmen if you want to one day. I will get off my soapbox now :)

Thank you both for your comments and taking kids to see something different from what they see on a daily basis. I'm 55 years old and so happy that my parents and the San Diego public school system exposed me to cultural events and things outside of my neighborhood as a kid.

I can't wait for this!!! I love Audra McDonald and Norm Lewis has an incredible voice. This is great news. I am going to check out the revival of "Master Class" which is where I first saw Ms. McDonald on stage and I have never forgotten that performance. "Porgy & Bess" is good news.

Audra is another Juilliard talent!!!!! That's why I put my daughter in an Arts School (Jada is an alum) because she exposed our family to soooooo much and she got to meet Angela Bassett (and drool over Courtney) in NYC!!! She stayed on B way seeing plays and telling me about the talent. I think she saw Denzel on B way as well. The day she met Chelsea Clinton was memorable.....

Are you sure that Norm Lewis is not Bill Cosby's son?

To each his own...but I don't want to see Porgy or Bess! I love Broadway plays; don't live in New York so the last play I saw was "Fences" with Denzel and the fabulous female lead Viola I've seen the old movie Porgy and Bess before, and the movie was a turn-off
