From indieWire:
It's no secret that Oprah's new joint venture television network with Discovery, now called the OWN network, has been struggling from day one. Not long ago, she let everyone know that plans were in the works to do some revamping. However, now comes word that her publication, O Magazine, is also struggling with ad sales.

Oprah is great at what she does, but she needs to change the type of entertainment she is presenting. This is not ABC! Since she's into all types of metaphysical things, maybe the number ll5 or what ever it is, is not quite it.

Quote from article; 'While the whole magazine industry has seen recent declines, Martha Stewart Living is down 14 percent and EveryDay with Rachael Ray is down 25 percent, O Magazine is down by 31 percent according to the Media Industry Newsletter.'
Besides the decline of paperback publications across the board that have fall victim to the internet, Oprah still either doesn't get it or remains stubbon...Her programming choices are not attracting new viewers from differnt demographics while being in direct competition with all the other major TV networks who have long established their place with the viewing pubic and O's network simply does not generate enough interest to add viewers and as for her magic......Her magic was the long running and well established 'Oprah Winfrey Show' that drove all her assets....Book Club, O Magazine, TV specials, movies etc and now that her show is over, interest in her has also dropped off and IMO, Oprah at this point, gets the benefit of the doubt because of who she is with her struggling network but she continues to lose millions daily because of lack of interest and when her backers get tired of losing money if nothing changes, they will egt in line with programming of the other leading networks or eventually pull the plug on Oprah and the OWN Network.
I hope she suceeeds but at the end of the day, the numbers don't lie and no one knows that better than Oprah.
Oprah dominated daytime TV.....Network/Primetime TV, different ball game and she's just a rookie who has a whole lot to learn.

The problem with the magazine is that it is nothing but advertisment. There are so many that she does not have enough room for substative articles. She needs to intorduce more relevant materials.

I live in Baltimore. I witnessed Oprahs success at WJZ. She has a talent for interviewing people. She went to Chicago and the World recognized that talent. I believe this is the essence of Oprahs success. Everything else is a diversion from Ms. Winfrey's gift for human interaction in TV Talk! My advice to Oprah is to restart her TALK SHOW. SCHOOLS IN AFRICA, MAGAZINES, TELEVISION NETWORKS ARE NOT HER SPECIALTY! The old time movie cowboys had a saying that summarizes my opinion: "The same horse you ride into town on, should be the same horse you ride out of town on."

I echo John Carrington's remarks completely.
I pray that Oprah too will realize that "The Oprah
Show" and its benefit to millions is her life's calling. All the other wellsprings that sprung from the richly successful show is "cream on the cake" but can never become cake by themselves.
Hopefully, after she has had a good rest (which she apparently needed), she might feel a real sense of loss (like losing one's standing balance), as well as realize that keeping OWN and her magazine afloat is much more exhausting and emotionally draining than to return to the show, so that her sea of viewers can become the wind beneath the wings of OWN and ultimately save the network... which would be serendipidtous!

You must keep growing. I'm for her going and doing anything she wish. You must keep fresh, yes use what you learned but don't be afraid to make something new happen.. God Bless you and yours, Oprah,...
